Outfit: Saturday Fundraising

We had a fundraiser at church this afternoon for the drama group of which I am a member. I’ve been manning the bric-a-brac stall and drinking tea. We made around £500 in all, selling tea & coffee, sandwiches & cakes, books, videos & jigsaws.

Two shots today – I started out in the long grey cardi but decided it was too casual, so I changed into the shrug that I bought yesterday on my shopping trip. This is my first attempt at combining patterns and I think the two lots of stripes worked well together.

Outfit: Casual Friday and Girlie Shopping

No separate outfit shot for last night – that’s the beauty of wearing jeans to work – you can just head straight out to choir practice without changing! I just switched the waistcoat for a sweater as I knew we would be in the actual church last night and that it would be cold! The church choir is my favourite of all my weekly rehearsals. It is a small group of people and we always end up having a laugh about something. The choirmaster is a friend of mine and makes the evenings fun.

So, on to today. My friend and I have taken the afternoon off work and are heading into Leeds for some girly shopping. That means flat boots are a must. I will not be making a habit of wearing my contact lenses for work but as I’m only doing a half day today, I thought I’d make an exception.

Blue t shirt – Levi’s (contest prize from the DCGF)
Black long sleeve t – Dorothy Perkins Tall

Black faux suede OTK boots – Matalan

Outfit: Distraction Technique

I am being a little rebellious and wearing jeans when it’s not even Friday. My department has 4 women and around 65 men. Many of the lads look extremely scruffy on a daily basis, whether they have on jeans or not. In this outfit I look far smarter than many of them. Also, I have my contact lenses in for the first time in work. The theory is that everyone will be so busy commenting on my lack of glasses (or trying to figure out what is different about me (they’re not the most observant of chaps after all) that they won’t even notice the jeans.

Outfit: Black & Blue Tuesday

I realised I’d not yet worn this dress this year so out it’s come to match with blue tights for coloured tights week.

I love these shoes but they are a little on the high side, even for me! I don’t have to walk far today though so I should be fine in them.

This Week I Will Be Mostly…

…wearing coloured tights
…reading the March issue of US Glamour
…watching the X-Files season 1 (still) – only one more disc to go!
…listening to the compilation CD I made yesterday – it’s very eclectic: everything from Taylor Swift to They Might Be Giants
…eating out at the local pub tomorrow night
…shopping for nothing

Outfit: Pink Tights

A friend of mine at church yesterday had bright pink tights on and that reminded me that I have not worn my pair in a while. In fact, with the exception of purple, I have not worn coloured tights at all in a while. Time to rectify that whilst it is still winter.
This is the first outing for these shoes too. I must have bought them just as it was going into boot weather last autumn.

Outfit: Sunday Morning Church

I helped out with the Sunday school (or Junior Church as I think we’re supposed to call it at my new church) this morning. There were only 2 children there as it is the end of half term week.

Afterwards I popped to Boots and bought myself a pair of sunglasses. I’ve never had proper non-prescription ones before but decided I need some for driving as it is quite sunny today. I am LOVING my contact lenses, it’s getting a bit easier to get them in now.

Outfit: Saturday Night Out

We are heading up to TGI Friday to meet some friends for a meal shortly. It is not where I would have chosen to go as I think the food there is fairly mediocre, but I’ll live with it. At least I’ll be able to have a cheeky cocktail or two.

This is totally my favourite pair of jeans at the moment.

Black shrug – New Look
Black ‘High Maintenance’ t – Tall Girls
Jeans – River Island
Silver flats – Faith
Black heart necklace – Scope

Outfit: Saturday

My hair needs cutting, but I don’t have an appointment until a week on Wednesday. So rather than bemoaning that (too much), I will instead focus on the fact that it is now long enough to wear up and enjoy that for a week or so.

We have no water at the moment as the young man is replacing the washers in the kitchen taps. Once he’s done with that I am going to make some soup for dinner, clean the bathroom and put some washing on.

Blue t – Topshop Tall (eBay)
Red long sleeve t – Long Tall Sally

Black faux suede OTK boots – Matalan
Black leather belt – local boutique

Outfit: Girls’ Night Out!

Friday night I headed into the city to meet a couple of friends for drinks. We’d not seen each other for ages so the night was spent catching up and gossiping – so much so that my friend missed her train home! I was lucky as the young man had offered to drive in and pick me up. Just as well really, I wouldn’t fancy being in my local station late at night, it’s a bit of a dive.

Outfit: New Scarf & New T

Friday at last! There are a few inspirations behind this outfit. First up: Carrie Bradshaw. In season 6 she wears a blazer over a Mickey Mouse t shirt when she takes Berger to meet the girls. Secondly: Kasmira. I am quietly coveting her fabulous bright blue suede booties. They add a pop of colour everytime she wears them. My purple ones are just about as bright and have the same effect. Thirdly: the purple scarf. When I was planning this outfit in my head, I was going to put my red shoes with it. I have started wearing purple quite a lot recently and had been thinking for a while that I could do with a purple scarf. I took a trip to the mall last night and spied the one I have on for £3.50 in Claire’s.

I’ve flipped the pictures today so that the writing on my t shirt is more visible.

Shapewear

Shapewear, Spanx, granny pants, sucker knickers. Yes ladies, call them what you will (sucker knickers is my favourite, it’s what my friend C refers to them as), every girl needs a pair to smooth you out under dresses, hide muffin tops under jeans, and just generally make you look better in your clothes. I have never tried Spanx and I am sure they are great, but the best ones I have found by far, are by George at Asda (and I have tried Marks & Spencer’s version – not a patch of the George ones). They do several kinds, ranging from big pants to shorts that extend up your body and down your legs. The ones I have are long in the body, but regular ‘pant shape’ on the legs (like a low leg swimsuit). They cost just £8 and wear after wear, wash after wash, they have kept their elasticity and shape. I throw them in the washing machine and the tumble dryer and they come out fine. I feel like I have a corset on when wearing them and my waist feels tiny, which is a great confidence booster. I would definitely recommend you to try them out if you are looking for some shapewear underwear without breaking the bank on price or skimping on quality.

Outfit: Lazy Thursday

This is a very lazy outfit today. I was back late from rehearsal last night and didn’t have the time or energy to come up with anything more creative. And I managed to oversleep this morning so I was very glad that I had a very easy outfit – just jeans and a sweater, effectively, to pull on. The scarf and shoes pep it up a bit, but at least I am comfortable when I’m at work rather than still being asleep which is where I’d rather be!

The Conservatory Overcoat GIVEAWAY!!!!

The Conservatory Overcoat GIVEAWAY!!!!

George at Asda In-Between Size Jeans

This has already been widely reported in the blogosphere, but I thought I’d add my two cents anyway. I was in Asda last week and it was undeniably strange to see sizes 11, 13 & 15 on the hangers in the jeans section. I think this is a terrive idea and I wonder why it has taken so long for clothing manufacturers to catch on. There are countless times when my sister and I have been frustrated in the changing rooms, declaring “I’m a size 13! Why don’t they make in-between sizes in clothes?!” The ‘odd’ sizes are currently only available in the standard length bootcut jeans (for the bargain price of £12) so sadly I will be unable to participate at present – given that regular length jeans are pretty much cropped length on me, but hopefully if this is a successful venture we could see ‘odd’ sizes being rolled out across the George range, and perhaps one day, other stores will pick up on the idea too.

Outfit: Black & Brown

It used to be a huge fashion faux pas to mix black & brown. Oh how times change. Today it is a perfectly acceptable combination. I was looking through my blog archives yesterday (I like to look back at what I was wearing this time last year) and saw that I bought these boots about a year ago. I’ve not worn them for a while so thought I would build today’s outfit around them.

Review: Café Press

You may remember that I posted these two tops as ‘Wants’ back in January. Well, after a day’s deliberation, I caved in and ordered them from Café Press. The tops are American Apparel ones so if you are familiar with that brand you will know what the fit and quality is like. I am not familiar with AA. I ordered a size Large which the site said would fit a UK 12-14 but warned the sizes run small. I am happy to say that both tops fit me perfectly and the length is really good – I had thought I might need to layer a longer t underneath. Delivery was promised between 13th February and 19th February: my parcel was delivered yesterday. Unfortunately, I miscalculated the threshold for customs charges (thanks for not being helpful, HMRC website!) and had to go to the delivery office to pay the excess. There is, however, a shipping option on the Café Press website that includes the customs charges and I will be sure to select that one next time.

I would definitely order from Café Press again – there are thousands of options available whatever you are into – slogans, pictures, etc.

So another Monday morning rolls around and it’s always a struggle to get out of bed. Fortunately it is half term this week and so the traffic is much lighter. Also the temporary traffic lights on the main road near work have gone so that means no queuing there either.

This afternoon I have my lenses in again and have done an at home mani/pedi with Maybelline Extreme Blackcurrant.

I will probably continue to harp on about my lenses for a while yet as they are a total novelty to me. I have worn glasses since I was 8 years old and up until last week, I had no idea what my face looked like without glasses. They are as much a part of me as my nose. I didn’t know what my face looks like because to be far enough away from the mirror that my whole face is visible means that I am too far away to be able to see clearly. Yes, I am THAT blind. I am a minus 10 in one eye and minus 9 with an astigmatism in the other eye. So you see, having contact lenses is a revolution to me, even if I am still struggling a little to get them in and out.

Saturday Shopping: Tall Girls T

I have decided that I will never be able to bring myself to spend £150 on a leather jacket, so unless it is drastically reduced in the sale (like, to half price or less) I will forget about it. To that end, I have just spent my Christmas voucher on a funky t shirt. Can’t wait for it to arrive!

Outfit: Saturday

I’m just having a quiet day around the house today, trying out my new contact lenses! I picked them up on Thursday night, but did not have time to faff about getting them in yesterday. It takes me a while at the moment but I’m sure it will get easier the more I practise.

I am loving t shirts with slogans or pictures on them. I was in Matalan yesterday and was tempted by a Betty Boop one. I had a sweatshirt with Betty Boop on when I was about 9 or 10. I have to wonder why she is making a resurgence suddenly, though. George at Asda are currently stocking t shirts and night wear with her on too.

Well I’m certainly getting my £2.50 worth out of this scarf this week aren’t I? I don’t know why I’m still wearing it really, other than I wanted flat boots as today as I’ve got a bit of running around to do, and the blue scarf matched the blue boots and gave a pop of colour against the grey.

Outfit: Brown & Blue

Another two items that I’ve not yet worn this year – my comfy brown cords and my blue velvet waistcoat. I don’t know why I don’t wear these trousers more often. They are so soft and quite stretchy so they are lovely to wear. I think I just forget that because I don’t wear them very often.
I could have labelled this scarf week as I’ve worn a scarf everyday so far. I find they are a good alternative to a polo neck sweater for keeping your neck warm.
I have choir practice at church this evening and this outfit is casual enough to just keep it on all evening.

Last night was the last of the singing rehearsals for the musical drama group and next week the dancing begins! This is good because the rehearsal room was absolutely freezing last night, and at least if we’re up dancing it’s not so cold.

Outfit: Blue Wednesday

Last night I went out for a meal with the girls from my old choir. The restaurant was lovely, not somewhere I’d been before, but the food was excellent. I had to go to my parents’ house after work to get ready as it would have taken too long to go all the way home and then out again. I wore the same jeans and sweater as on Sunday, and put the grey boots from yesterday with them. I added a silver/grey scarf around my neck.

The snow is receding now but the ground is still frozen and our drive was like an icerink this morning. I almost fell over twice! I am glad I have a collection of flat boots for when the weather is like this.

Gossard

Every bride wants to feel special on her wedding day, and what better place to start than with underwear. Gossard have a range of bridal underwear and bras to help you feel exceptional and to provide the right support under your wedding dress. Renowned for the Wonderbra, the company was founded in 1901 and have been making underwear ever since, so they know a thing or two about it! The range of bridal bras covers a broad spectrum, so whether you want something demure in white lace, or something altogether more risqué for the all important wedding night, Gossard are sure to have something to suit you.

The Superboost Satin Multiway Bra would be the perfect option to wear under your dress, even if you are not the bride. The bra can be worn strapless or in a whole host of strap combinations so it will be suitable if you are a bridesmaid or even a wedding guest in a posh frock. It comes in a range of colours and sizes from 32A to 38DD. Matching pants are available in several styles, from boy shorts to thongs.

For something less traditional, how about the Superboost Satin Plunge Bra? Again, the straps are detachable for maximum versatility and the bra (and co-ordinating pants) is available in five colours – I particularly like the Nile Blue. This bra from the bridal range is sized from 32A to 38GG and as such will be suitable for almost every woman with a special occasion to attend.

Online shopping is available from Gossard’s bra shop and all orders will be dispatched within 48 hours. Delivery is promised in up to 5 days. The company ships worldwide. Shipping to the UK is £3 and to the USA is £11.50. Shipping costs to other countries vary but you can select your country in the shopping cart to check the price before you buy.

I don’t think I’ve worn this top as a sweater before so I thought I’d give it a go today. Outfit: Saturday Singing

I was out all day yesterday at a singing workshop with my choir. It was great fun. Most of the day we were split off with the ladies in one room and the men in the other. That meant we got to do a lot of singing in close 4 part harmony and we did different styles of music to what we usually do. There was also a lot of sight reading involved which was great for building everyone’s confidence.

I had finally had enough of wearing my EMU boots so wore some different flat boots, even though there is still a lot of snow around. I did put on my EMUs to drive over to my sister’s in the evening to meet up with our cousins for a meal and games.

Show Us Your Blog Spot!

I have been tagged by Boutique Girl at Things A Boutique Owner Sees to show you my blogspot. Winona at Daddy Likey started this and it’s spreading pretty quickly as I’ve seen it on plenty of blogs this week.

So here it is:

My sofa! We have 2 sofas in our front room – for some reason I get the 2 seater one and the young man gets the 3 seater. I sit at the end with the cushions (Asda’s finest!) with my back against the sofa arm and the cushions behind me. The sofa is just the right length for me to stretch my legs out in front of me and have my laptop on my legs. There’s a coaster on the floor for the essential cup of tea!

The rules:
1. Once you are tagged, post a picture of where you blog. This might mean a picture of your cozy bed, or your office at work (you naughty employee, you!), or a boring ol' desk like me. Feel free to be creative, but be honest--if your desk is usually covered in Ritz crackers and love letters to Rahm Emanuel, then show us!

2. Feel free to tell us a little about your space, or explain certain items in more detail. Or not.

3. Link back to this post. (I want to see how far this goes!)

4. Tag five other bloggers to show their blog spots.

5. If you are tagged and do not participate, you will become allergic to cabbage.

Outfit: Grey and Purple Friday

It’s Friday at last! I am getting a bit sick of wearing the same boots everyday, but there is still snow on the ground and the soles on these are so thick and rubbery that they grip extremely well on the ice. I am quite excited that the snow has hung around all week – this never normally happens in this country and it takes me back to the winters of my childhood when there would be plenty of snow and it would last more than just a few hours as is the norm these days. The young man and his friend are planning to head to the mountains tomorrow to go sledging. I will not be joining them as I have an away-day with the choir. But back to today. I have a very busy afternoon/evening planned. I need to run some errands after work, then head home and bake chocolate brownies to take to my sister’s house tomorrow evening. I have some writing work to do and I need to clean the bathroom and put on some washing – things I would have done tomorrow had I not been out all day.

This outfit is not just about what you can see – I have on a cashmere sweater under my t shirt for warmth, and a second belt is holding up my jeans!

Topshop Go Back To The 80s

Amber alerted me to the fact that Topshop are selling a t shirt with a picture of Kylie and Jason on the front. I was 10 in 1989 when ‘Especially For You’ was released, and was a big fan of both Kylie & Jason thanks partly to their success in ‘Neighbours’, and partly to the song writing talents of Stock, Aitken & Waterman.

I can’t decide whether this t shirt is incredibly naff, or whether it would be totally cool with a jacket and skinny jeans. It’s £20 if you want one.

Spring/Summer 2009

I have been reading the US edition of Harper’s Bazaar and here is their guide to the rules for dressing for the new season:

Metallics
Adornment – especially embellished necklines
Kahki
Electric Hues
Rosettes
Beading
Tailored suits
Accessories
Mini-dresses
Shoes in (faux) alligator skin
Messenger Bags

Outfit: Busy Wednesday

I have a busy day planned today: work, eye test, tea at the pub to celebrate my friend’s birthday, drama group rehearsal. The EMU boots are not the ideal footwear to have paired with this outfit, however, there is still around 3 or 4 inches of snow on the ground, and the top layer has now turned to ice. My company still has not cleared the car park so these boots seemed like the most sensible option, especially as I don’t know what the town centre car parks and pavements will be like this evening. Plus they keep my feet toasty warm.

Six More Weeks of Winter

So the Groundhog saw his shawdow up in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania yesterday, along with a couple of Canadian groundhogs predicting the same thing. The whole groundhog thing has its roots back in Old English Folklore however. February 2nd is Candlemas Day and so the saying goes:

If Candlemas be fair and bright

Come, Winter, have another flight.

If Candlemas brings clouds and rain,

Go Winter, and come not again.

If we do get six more weeks of winter, let’s hope they are as snow-filled as the last two days!

Outfit: Another Snowy Day

I have made it into work today, sadly. I am wearing much the same outfit as I had on yesterday, only I’ve replaced the pink furry slipper boots that I wore most of yesterday with my EMU boots. I knew the car park at work would not have been cleared so there was no way I was risking heels or any of my good shoes in the snow.

Last night the young man’s BFF came over for tea and then we played out in the snow. We built a snowman in the garden that was taller than I am, complete with banana mouth, Clementine nose and a hat and scarf. The BFF is putting the photos we took onto Facebook later so I will post one on here when I can. After that, we walked up the road to TGI Fridays for a drink. It was still snowing at this point. Sitting in TGIs on a Monday night, drinking cocktails, wearing my green wellies is not something I ever thought I would be doing, but there you go. The lads were laughing at my wellies but they were a good idea given the weather conditions. On the way home we detoured onto a disused golf course and the lads found a broken sledge. Trudging though the 6 inches of snow to get to the top of the hill so they could race down, on half the sledge each, the wellies weren’t so funny anymore as I was the only one with dry feet and jeans.

This Week I Will Be Mostly…

…wearing my EMU boots and warm clothes if the snow stays put
…reading the February issue of US Harper’s Bazaar
…watching the X-Files season 1
…listening to the compilation CD I made at the weekend with more downloaded tracks
…eating mini chocolate brownies
…shopping for nothing

Snow Day!

No outfit picture today. It’s snowing heavens high and I’m working from home. I have on my skinny jeans, grey polo neck, and put on my EMU boots when I went out to clear my car to let the young man off the drive earlier. I need to go to Tesco really but am not venturing out unless the snow clears a little later on. It’s still snowing pretty hard on and off at the moment. I am quite excited as there is more snow forecast for tonight and my comfy sofa beckons for work tomorrow too. It certainly beats getting up early and trekking across the city to the office. I am so going to play out later and build a snowman!

Outfit: Street Style Inspiration

I saw a girl yesterday in a very similar combination to this whilst I was out shopping. I thought she looked great – simple and casual, and decided to pinch the look today.
We’re having a lazy day – the young man is pottering in the garage (building a bread bin he says) and I’ve put some washing on and changed the bedsheets. It’s threatening to snow.

Black faux suede OTK boots – Matalan
