Georgia Rose silver flats

My blog turns 7 today and I can’t believe I’ve kept it going all this time. Happy birthday, blog! I didn’t particularly pick out a special blogversary outfit, but I think this one comprises pieces that are all very me: stripes, coloured pants, a big necklace, navy blue.

Yesterday afternoon we were having a conversation at work about the 1990s. The lass who sits next to me is almost 10 years younger than I am and when the conversation turned to shell suits she looked blank. We told her to Google them and she did, saying she could see something like that coming back into fashion before long. I don’t think it’s possible to appreciate the full nylon, flammable horror of a shell suit from a photograph. I never had one but my sister did. I did want one though, they were totally the thing to have in the early to mid ‘90s and everyone wore them. Did you have a shell suit?

NL Blue

I got some bright blue pants at last! I’ve wanted a pair this colour since the whole coloured denim thing came about a few years ago. Long Tall Sally did a pair of jeans in cobalt but I decided I didn’t need them so they didn’t warrant paying full price. This Primark pair for £4.99 on eBay though? Totally worth it. I wasn’t sure how long these would be though the listing said they were longer length (not something I can ever recall seeing in Primark mind) but was pleasantly surprised to find them just the right length. They’re the Chino style and make a great addition to my (growing) coloured pants wardrobe.

In other news, how is it the end of July already please? Where is this summer going? Have y’all had the torrential rain we are getting up here? I don’t mind it so much this year (apart from yesterday when I was caught in it and my lunchtime walking shoes got soaked through – shouldn’t have got fabric ones) as we’ve had some good spells of hot sunny weather, and it has stayed warm despite the rain. The evenings are getting cooler but that’s not a bad thing as I’ve started blow drying my hair again. Nothing will make me use my hairdryer in the heat so I’d been embracing my natural waves for the longest time, but a proper blow dry does help no end if I want to wear it straight.

Blue trousers – Primark (eBay)

LK Bennett Shilo

When I was trying to figure out what to put with these pants last night, I heard Kendi’s voice in my head saying “chambray shirt”. OK, I didn’t hear her voice as I don’t know what her voice actually sounds like, but I imagined an American voice saying “chambray shirts go with everything” and remembered her post about how when you don’t know what to pair something with, the answer is always a chambray shirt. http://www.kendieveryday.com/2012/08/bright-idea.html (Turns out that post was almost a year ago. I could have sworn it was just a couple of months back. Time flies, huh?)

So, how was your weekend? Mine was quiet. I didn’t really go anywhere so didn’t wear anything more exciting than striped tops and shorts/cropped jeans the whole time. Nor did I get any pictures, other than this one on Saturday afternoon:

The next couple of weekends coming up will be busier, and with us being away last weekend it was just nice to have a quiet one and catch up on a few jobs around the house.

Cream bead bib necklace – New Look (sale)

Review: Vaseline Spray and Go Essential Moisturise

When I saw that Vaseline have launched my favourite moisturiser in a spray can, I knew I wanted to try it out. I use copious amounts of the Essential Moisture version of Vaseline’s moisturisers but always found it took a while for it to sink in. The new Spray and Go version promises to solve this problem, but does it work?

I tend to take a shower right before bed and I like to moisturise my legs afterwards. However, I hate going to bed with that slightly ‘sticky’ feeling that moisturiser can leave you with, especially when the weather is as warm as it has been recently. So I gave the spray a go and was very impressed. It gives a really fine layer of moisturiser but still plenty to make your legs soft and silky. By the time I have applied regular moisturiser to my face, my legs are completely dry. I would definitely recommend this product, though you may want to stand on a towel whilst you apply it to avoid the bathroom floor becoming slippery!

Buy Vaseline Spray and Go Body Moisturiser at Boots for £4.99.

Outfit: How to Dress Up a White T Shirt and Jeans

26-07-13d

26-07-13c

26-07-13g

LK Bennett Maddox coral

I started with the most basic of outfits today – a white t shirt and jeans. The t shirt is from the Long Tall Sally basics collection and you can now get 2 for £25 in a whole array of colours. The jeans are also Long Tall Sally (what can I say, it’s my favourite shop) and are the Buttersoft Premium Denim straight legs. I find straight legs will cuff better than skinnies when the weather is warm.

So, you’re in your basic outfit. To dress it up, just set about accessorising to your heart’s content. I usually find some chunky jewellery (necklace, bangle), an oversize scarf and some colourful heels will do the trick. And ASOS are not kidding when they say that this scarf is oversized. It must be about 12 foot long. That’s not even an exaggeration – I held it against me when it was doubled over and it was taller than I am. If they bring out some more colours/prints that I like next season I would be very tempted to get another one.

Anyway, it’s Friday and I’m looking forward to a lie in tomorrow morning, and then a fairly quiet weekend. Have a good one everybody!

By 8.20am I was feeling that long sleeves may have been a mistake. But then the air conditioning kicked in and I was glad I had them.

So can we talk about these stripy pants? They were part of my Forever 21 order last week and I love them. They’re denim but they’re grey with cream stripes so they don’t really look like denim. And the length. I ordered them knowing full well they would probably be cropped on me but they’re more 7/8 so they will last much further into the autumn than crops would, which is awesome! The label says they are premium denim but they were ridiculously cheap, only about £14. On the strength of these I will definitely buy Forever 21 denim again.

Georgia Rose red patent flats

Another day, another stripy top. This one is also from Zara, bought in the sale last week. I don’t often buy anything in Zara as I find their sizing to be skimpy, to say the least. It doesn’t exactly boost your ego to find you can’t get your leg in a pair of trousers that are allegedly your size. However, these stripy tops are good quality fabric and they had loads of them in different colours, plain as well as stripes.

These trousers are the only item I own that contain linen. They are 50/50 cotton and linen I think, and they still crease far too easily for my liking but I can live with it. I don’t buy pure linen as I think it just looks messy when it’s so wrinkled.

The forecast was for it to be warm again but they couldn’t rule out thunderstorms so patent shoes seemed like a good idea. I saw an actual streak of lightning in the sky yesterday morning as I was driving to work. An actual zig zag of it, which never happens, it’s usually just a big flash lighting up all the surrounding sky.

Esprit Lyra ballerina metallic blue

So it appears I have a problem with stripy tops. Do not even ask how many I have in my closet. I fully blame the purchase of this one on Jill of Good Life for Less. She was wearing what I thought was the same one a couple of weeks ago and I loved it instantly. She’d included a link as she’d just got it at F21, so I clicked through but of course the US site couldn’t talk to the British site and it couldn’t find the top. I did a search of striped tops, spied this one, and ordered (along with the scarf I have on today and a couple of other items but that’s another story, possibly for tomorrow. I like to have an exciting package waiting for me when I return to work after a holiday – it makes going back all the easier). However, when this top arrived it turned out to be a little different as Jill’s has buttons on the sleeves to roll them up, and has a looser fit. But it was the colourway I was drawn to really so I don’t mind at all. And doesn’t it go perfectly with the scarf? I saw this scarf and as I love my giant turquoise H&M one so much I thought this would be a good purchase. It’s quite a thin cotton which makes it perfect for warmer (but not that warm) weather.

This morning was grey and overcast when I got up, and before I left the house the rain, thunder and lightning started. When I got to work I managed to walk into a deeper-than-it-looked puddle in the car park and ended up emptying water out of my shoes. My new shoes. They are by Esprit and were the second part of my Sarenza voucher purchase this month. Fortunately they are not leather so I don’t think they’ll come to any harm after their early morning bath. Aren’t they pretty? I really like a pointed flat shoe – I think the pointed toe makes them dressier than an ordinary ballerina. And we all know how much I like metallic blue – just look at my blog header!

Last night, amongst other things, I went to do the supermarket shopping. I needed toothpaste and my preferred brand is Macleans. Can someone explain to me why it is that Tesco have 33 varieties of Colgate (yes, 33 – I counted), 10 varieties of Oral B but only 1 type of Macleans, and not the type I wanted? Are they sponsored by Colgate or something?

23-07-13c

Finally, it turns out that the easiest way for me to get waves in my hair is for me to sleep on it wet. I kind of scrunch it up under my head and in the morning it is dry and wavy. True laziness.
