Outfit: March 7th – Stripes and Army Green

The lovely Audrey of Putting Me Together (www.puttingmetogether.com) sent out a PDF of spring transition outfits to everyone on her blog mailing list the other week. Since the snow had finally receded I took a look at it and the first outfit on the list was a striped dress similar to this one, a green utility jacket and taupe booties or red rain boots, depending on your weather situation. I don’t have utility jacket (and I don’t feel like I want or need one) so I paired my dress with this cardigan instead. I feel like the colour combination was the more important thing here anyway. Obviously I still needed thick tights (especially with such a short dress) but in the sunshine there were moments when it actually felt like spring could be just around the corner.

Outfit: February 22nd – Stripe Dress, Lighter Layers

It was still cold out (and getting colder as we headed towards the weekend) so layers were necessary, but those layers can be in a lighter, spring hue. Ankle boots in a light colour feel more spring-like whilst still keeping your feet warm, and a cosy sweater is still cosy even when it’s in a paler colour.

Outfit: January 30th – Slouchy Tan Boots

Slouchy tan boots are a wardrobe staple for me (I’ve had a pair in my wardrobe for the past 9 years!) because they go with EVERYTHING. So when my trusty Steve Madden pair started disintegrating from the inside I knew it was time to look for a replacement. I couldn’t find one. And then, I was looking for another style of boots entirely when it occurred to me to check the Office website. And up popped these boots. Real leather, available in a size 9 (well, an EU42 which is what Office call a size 9), and half price in the sale. I didn’t find what I’d actually gone there to look for but I snapped these up and my Steve Madden boots were retired to the bin (there was almost a hole right the way through the leather on one of the heels – they didn’t owe me anything and I don’t think the charity shop would have wanted them!).

For their first outing I paired them with basics in black – a cashmere sweater and stretchy pants, plus my fabulous Nickel and Suede leather earrings (which I will do a separate post about soon) and a blanket scarf as it’s still January and it’s still cold out. But! Good news! It is no longer pitch-black dark at 5pm! It’s still semi-light! Spring is coming people!

Outfit: January 16th – No-Snow Day

We were promised snow overnight the morning I wore this, but as seems typical this winter the weather missed us completely and not a flake was in sight when I woke up. I had planned my outfit for snow and more some was forecast for later in the day so I wore what I had planned anyway. There is method in the seeming madness of this ensemble for snow: the tights are actually my beloved velvet-lined leggings, by far the warmest leg-wear I own. The skirt is pleather and therefore waterproof as I knew it would be sticking out the bottom of my warm, waterproof coat which isn’t that long. And I put on my cosy EMU boots to walk to work, carrying these ankle ones with me in my bag.

Outfit: December 11th – The Snow That Wasn’t

Two weeks before Christmas we were promised Snowmaggedon. It didn’t really materialise in the Frozen North, although I hear the Midlands, Wales and the South did get it. The lack of snow didn’t stop it being cold though so I dug out my warmest item of clothing which is this dress, fleece-lined tights and my faux-sheepskin tall boots which were just right for the temperatures of -3˚C.

Outfit: October 31st – Navy Dress Files #2

For the second installment of ways to wear a navy dress, I paired it with an orange blazer for Halloween. And also ankle boots, because the previous day was freezing cold and I didn’t want my feet to be chilly.

This outfit was inspired by something I saw on Pintrest. A little digging (because ‘Pintrest’ is NOT a source) led me to this post on Stylish Petite where the image originated. I added a burgundy cardi rather than the bag because, you know, nesh. And it was distinctly cooler outside the morning I wore this than it had been of late.

Outfit: October 2nd – Sweater Dress and Over Knee Boots. Hello Fall

Well, autumn must be officially here now that it’s October and to celebrate I wore a sweater dress (albeit a cotton knit one as it isn’t actually that cold yet) and over the knee boots. Yay! I’m still sticking with nude tights for the time being, it’s nowhere near chilly enough for thicker ones yet. I stuck my burgundy biker jacket over this to up the fall factor even further although by dinnertime I didn’t need it.
