Outfit: Shoeper Challenge 2013/14 Save 82 | Teal

I have worn these sandals many, many times this summer so far but I don’t seem to have included them in an outfit post in order to save them. They are from New Look and were bought several years ago to replace a very similar pair which had broken. They are as comfortable and easy to wear as flip flops but I think they’re just a little bit smarter than flip flops. They cost me all of about £12 I think.

Thursday’s outfit was quite teal. The forecast was for more good weather and it arrived as promised. I had been considering wearing trousers but it seemed a shame to waste a sunny day with my legs covered.

The shrug is from Long Tall Sally and was purchased many years ago in the sale for less than £10 if I remember correctly. It is really useful as a light cover up when I need to cover my shoulders but don’t want an actual extra layer. The fine cotton knit makes it light weight and easy to wear.

So I think it’s time to look for a new camera. These are the only shots from today that came out without pink and/or green lines down them. Sad face.

Last night I got my hair done. It was so hot out that as soon as I got home I had to clip it up off my neck whilst I cooked tea. I didn’t think much evidence of the fancy blow dry would survive the heat but when I woke up this morning it wasn’t too bad. A few seconds with my GhDs on the front and I was good to go. I’m going back to the hairdresser in a couple of weeks to get some highlights. I’m quite excited about it as I’ve never had my hair professionally coloured before.

I put a shrug over this tank for the office – I like to cover up my shoulders at work and I needed it for the icy air conditioning. The bandeau adds a pop of colour and stops my tank from being too low cut.

Happy weekend everyone! What are you up to over the next couple of days?

By 8.20am I was feeling that long sleeves may have been a mistake. But then the air conditioning kicked in and I was glad I had them.

So can we talk about these stripy pants? They were part of my Forever 21 order last week and I love them. They’re denim but they’re grey with cream stripes so they don’t really look like denim. And the length. I ordered them knowing full well they would probably be cropped on me but they’re more 7/8 so they will last much further into the autumn than crops would, which is awesome! The label says they are premium denim but they were ridiculously cheap, only about £14. On the strength of these I will definitely buy Forever 21 denim again.

Tuesday morning was warm and sunny again. I went off to my sister’s as we had planned a day out in Harrogate. We dropped my niece off at my parents’ house then headed off to Harrogate.

16-07-13

We parked at the top of the Valley Gardens and walked through the gardens to get an ice cream from the cafe. They sell Ripley Ice Cream there and it is probably the best whippy ice cream you will have anywhere.
We carried on into town and did a little shopping in the sales, then went for afternoon tea in the Crown Hotel. It was a lovely day out and we had a little time to play in the garden with my niece when we got back to our parents’.

Reef Ginger flip flops brown

Monday was hot again so I was back in shorts to start my week off work. This was the day that the log burning stove (the one that’s started appearing in the background of my pictures) was being fitted. That meant lots of noise and lots of dust as they had to drill through the outside wall to fit the flue pipe. Not fun. I spent the morning doing some washing and scheduling blog posts, then took myself off to my hometown for the afternoon.

Sunday morning we were up in good time to go to church. After the service we had a coffee in the hall and then the choir headed up to a local park for our annual crown green bowling afternoon.

14-07-13

We had a picnic lunch by the club house (complete with tea and cake) and then the bowling got underway. Crown green bowling is a lovely way to spend a sunny afternoon, especially when no one is taking it particularly seriously (even though there was a trophy at stake). We were in the park until almost 5pm, and then it was time to go home.

14-07-13b

The young man and I drove across the city and met my sister and brother in law at our favourite Chinese buffet restaurant where we enjoyed a good meal Turns out you can work up quite an appetite on the bowling green on a hot afternoon.

I wore my cropped jeans but if I had thought I could get away with shorts in church I would have work those. It was that hot out again. It wasn’t until I was writing this post that I realised I was head to toe in New Look on Sunday.

Weekend Recap (and Saturday’s Outfit)

06-07-13

06-07-13d

NL Pewter jewel sandals

This weekend has been wall to wall sunshine and I’ve loved it! We started it off with a barbeque on Friday tea time which is always fun.

Saturday morning I did a few chores, walked to the village for some lipbalm with sunscreen and some stronger antihistamines than I was already taking, and then the young man’s parents called round. We sat in the back garden with them for a while, then had some dinner. I walked from our local town to the bike shop in the next town over in the afternoon, then did a spot of sunbathing (with my factor 30 on, naturally – you don’t get a complexion this pasty white without it!) in the garden. I put my shorts on when I got back from the village in the morning and kept them on all day so these outfit pictures are a bit of a cheat as I only wore the jeans for a couple of hours. We had another barbeque that evening.

06-07-13b

Sunday morning the young man headed off to meet a friend for a day’s cycling, and my sister and niece came to visit me. We spent the morning on a blanket in the back garden (my niece will quite happily walk barefoot on grass but try to make her sit on it and she will cry) playing with toys and a giant bubble wand. Then my niece took a nap so we moved inside and had some dinner.

06-07-13c

We took a walk to the park in the afternoon and my niece spent some time happily attempting play equipment that was far too big for her, then we found some shade under a tree and had ice cream.

When we got back my niece was asleep in her pushchair and when she woke up she seemed hot and a bit irritable so we put a bowl of cold water on the lawn and a towel for her to sit on (see: won’t sit on grass, above) and put her set of multicoloured beakers in the bowl. She had a lovely time splashing about and soaked herself, me and my sister.

The young man came home, my sister and niece went home and we spent the evening watching Ocean’s Eleven as the Love Film servers were down and we couldn’t get This Life.

Day 8 of the good weather (Saturday) and we headed out for a day in Knaresborough. It was the annual Knaresborough Bed Race so the town was packed. We knew it would be so we parked just outside and enjoyed a walk through the woods to get there.

Untitled

I’ve never been to the Bed Racing before, but the whole town had turned out for the event. There were around 90 teams taking part and there was a carnival-type parade of all the beds and teams in their fancy dress through the town before the actual race. This year’s theme was Myths and Legends so there were plenty of dragons, some aliens and even the Star Wars characters.

Untitled

Untitled

The main race takes place mid-afternoon and the teams race along the riverside, through the town (no mean feat if you know Knaresborough – it’s very hilly), back down and through the river to the finish line. I say through the river - all the beds have to be buoyant as the teams have to wade through the river with the beds. We had a drink at the entrance to Mother Shipton’s Cave and watched all the teams cross the bridge and head down to the river.

We rounded the day off back home with a barbeque.

Saturday was chillier than Friday, thanks to the wind, so I needed a sweater to keep warm. We had a quiet morning in and then the young man went off for a ride on his motorbike. I took a walk to the village for a few bits and pieces, then watched an old episode of Lovejoy (I used to love that show when it was originally on) on the Yesterday channel.

04-05-13b

The young man came back and we spent a while in the conservatory reading, then had a cup of tea outside in the sun. After tea we watched the ante-penultimate (hi dad, thanks for that word!) and penultimate episodes of Lost. I am so ready to be done with it now!

Shoeper Challenge 2012 #57 and A Weekend Recap

08-09-12

No outfit post for the weekend, but I did get a quick snap of the shoes I wore on Saturday afternoon. I was beginning to think they wouldn’t get saved but it was FINALLY warm and dry enough (I know, in mid-September!) to wear them when we went to a friend’s nana’s 80th birthday party. It was actually just an excuse to spend some time with our friends from Australia who are over visiting at the moment and the party was in our village so it wasn’t far to go. We had a great time and the young man ended up running into the mum of one of his best friends from junior school so we stayed longer than anticipated to have a drink with her.

Sunday I was on Sunday School duty so went off to church. After lunch I washed my car then we sat in the conservatory for a while when the sun went in and it got windy. We had a barbeque for tea, ever fearful that it may be the last one of the season.

The shoes I saved on Saturday were bought on my birthday last year I think, in New Look and were to replace a very similar pair that had fallen apart the previous summer.

Weekend Recap and I Quit

25-06-11

I quit the 30x30 on Saturday. What did you do? I got bored and with 2 days of blazing sunshine forecast I couldn’t bear to restrict myself to just one pair of summer shoes when these might be the only hot days we get this summer (if the rest of June was anything to go by). What can I say? In the words of Kirsty MacColl, I’m an Autumn Girl and I loved doing the 30x30 in the winter time. I’ll definitely join in the next one.

Friday night the young man was out with a mate, so I did the Tesco shopping and watched lots of Gossip Girl.

Hush Puppies Odette

On Saturday I spent the morning doing chores, then we went to look at some blinds for the conservatory. It was a pretty quiet day all in all, until about 4pm when I realised I was on Sunday school duty on Sunday morning and had to plan my lesson. Fortunately I had everything I needed so any last minute shopping trips were not needed. It was warm on Saturday but cooled off late afternoon.

Sunday I got up and went to church. I knew it was going to be hot out and it was. I had a hard time choosing a dress to wear as most of my summer dresses are either strappy or sleeveless, and I feel like my shoulders should be covered in church. I took these pictures when I got home at dinner time, and almost immediately afterwards changed into shorts and a tank top, and liberally applied the sunscreen.

26-06-11

I spent the afternoon in the garden, apart from a brief cycle up to M&S Food for some burgers for tea. I read my book, played games on my phone and generally chilled out in the sunshine. We had a barbeque for tea and then watched some episodes of Friends.
