Outfit: Shoeper Challenge 2013/14 Save 85 | Distressed Jeans and Party Shoes!

This is my last shoe save meaning the 2013/14 Shoe Challenge is complete! This last pair of shoes is quite a dressy pair, but I love putting dressy shoes with jeans. I’m sure I must have worn these shoes around Christmastime but I didn’t get any photos and it doesn’t count as a save if you don’t get any photos. These were bought, practically brand new, from a charity shop for £4.99. That was around 6 years ago now. The glitter around the sides used to poke into my feet (probably why they ended up in a charity shop after just one wear) but I took to them with scissors and a nail file and now they’re pretty comfy for 3+ inch heels.

This outfit was inspired by Instagram on Thursday night when Jen from A Little Bird posted a picture of her distressed jeans paired with her sparkly wedding shoes. I loved it! I kept the rest of the outfit simple and put on a scarf (9°C outside at 7am anyone? Where did summer go?). My kind of casual Friday outfit.

Grey sweatshirt – Long Tall Sally (sale)
Jeans – H&M (gifted)
Bronze glitter shoes – New Look (charity shop)
Red beads – eBay
Silver hoops – gifted
Burgundy and black scarf – River Island (sale)

Priceless Purple Flats

I bet you thought I’d forgotten about the Shoe Challenge didn’t you? Didn’t you? Well I kind of had. And them Amber posted and said she had only a few weeks left and I thought I’d better check my list as I knew I wasn’t done and there were only about three weeks to go. Fortunately there were only two pairs remaining on my ‘to be saved’ list and these purple flats were one of them. These are from Priceless Shoes and were bought one Christmas (about 2008 I think) as I needed some dressy looking flats and I didn’t have any. The satin, pointed toe and bow on these makes them quite dressy I think, and at only about £10 they were ideal. I have the same pair in a bright blue fabric too and they don’t get a lot of wear, but they are always useful to have on standby, especially around the festive season.

Anyway, moving on to my outfit. I haven’t worn this jacket in SO LONG, but since the outside temperatures in the morning have started dropping I decided it was the perfect time to pull it out. I love the nipped in waist and the huge collar.

Grey check jacket – Topshop Tall (eBay)
Black and white stripe sweater – c/o TM Lewin
Jeans – New Look
Purple flats – Priceless Shoes
Purple flower necklace – Dorothy Perkins (sale)
Silver hoops – gifted

Outfit: Shoeper Challenge 2013/14 Save 83 | Summer Shoes

I wasn’t planning on doing any more outfit posts this week, but then on Wednesday I went and saved a pair of shoes didn’t I? So I had to post them or it wouldn’t count.

These shoes are the epitome of summer. I mean, when else can you wear white shoes but for those few, short weeks between June and August? These shoes were actually purchased for the show a few (six?) years back when all the ladies chorus had to have white flats. They were all of £8 in Priceless Shoes and, at the time, I had the same shoes in silver. I love that the strap is optional and can be fastened around the back like those shoes you had when you were a kid and thought you were so grown up making your shoes into slip ons, even though your mother had made you promise you would never wear them like that.

So that’s another pair down and just two more to save.

Blue dress – Wallis (charity shop)
White bandeau – New Look
White shoes – Priceless Shoes
Silver glitter belt – local boutique
Silver hoops – gifted
Blue necklace – New Look
Blue bangle – Diamonds and Pearls

Outfit: Shoeper Challenge 2013/14 Save 82 | Teal

NL Pewter jewel sandals

I have worn these sandals many, many times this summer so far but I don’t seem to have included them in an outfit post in order to save them. They are from New Look and were bought several years ago to replace a very similar pair which had broken. They are as comfortable and easy to wear as flip flops but I think they’re just a little bit smarter than flip flops. They cost me all of about £12 I think.

Thursday’s outfit was quite teal. The forecast was for more good weather and it arrived as promised. I had been considering wearing trousers but it seemed a shame to waste a sunny day with my legs covered.

The shrug is from Long Tall Sally and was purchased many years ago in the sale for less than £10 if I remember correctly. It is really useful as a light cover up when I need to cover my shoulders but don’t want an actual extra layer. The fine cotton knit makes it light weight and easy to wear.

Teal shrug – Long Tall Sally (sale)
White tank – Zara (sale)
Teal skirt – H&M
Pewter jewelled sandals – New Look
Teal necklace – Scope
Silver hoops – gifted
Sunglasses – Amazon

Outfit: Shoeper Challenge 2013/14 Save 81 | Stripes and Florals

Anna Field brown flat

I don’t know why I haven’t saved these shoes sooner in the challenge (aside from them being quite summery due to the cut outs in the sides). I had forgotten how comfortable they are. They were a gift from the lovely people at Zalando a couple of summers ago and although I don’t think they are leather they are still a great pair of shoes. I chose them primarily for the strap as I can cycle in ordinary shoes providing they are held on my feet somehow. With these shoes ticked off the list I just have four more pairs left to save.

Today’s outfit was described as ‘very summery’ by one of my work mates today. And I guess it is with the nautical stripes and floral scarf. The trouble with living in the UK is that you get a couple of days of warm sunny weather and you know you have to make the most of them as there’s no guarantee you will get any more.

Navy and white stripe skirt – Debenhams (charity shop)
Navy top – Betty Jackson Black (Debenhams, sale)
Navy floral scarf – Fat Face (gifted)
Brown shoes – Anna Field (c/o Zalando)
Navy heart necklace – Scope
Silver hoops – gifted

Outfit: Shoeper Challenge 2013/14 Save 80 | Red and White Spots

Next Tan Wedges

As ever at this stage of the shoe challenge I have saved more pairs of shoes than I actually have. My current list stands at 76 pair but as you can see from the post title, this is the 80th pair I’ve saved. I went on a bit of an eBay selling spree just after Christmas and sold several pairs that I’d already saved so that explains the discrepancy. And I’ve still got another six pairs to save.

Thursday’s shoes are from Next and were bought two or three summers ago when I was out with my sister. They are super comfy despite the height, and they would have been worn before now had we had the weather. Now that the good weather is here they are likely to earn their keep in my closet. They are not leather but I think they were only about £25. I think they came in red and yellow patent colour options too.

The rest of the outfit is stolen from a picture Kendi posted on her blog yesterday. She commented about the contrast between the menswear shirt and the girliness of the skirt. I knew I had the items to replicate such an outfit and it was perfect for a warm sunny day.

White shirt – Long Tall Sally (bought with voucher)
White top – Zara
Red and white spot skirt – New Look Tall (sale)
Tan wedges – Next
Wood heart necklace – Scope
Wood bangles – Dorothy Perkins
Tan leather belt – River Island
Silver hoops – gifted

Outfit: Shoeper Challenge 2013/14 Save 79 | Striped Dress, Blue Accessories

11-06-14

Priceless Blue Flats

Just some quick mirror snaps that I am obliged to post because I saved another pair of shoes! These lovely blue pointy flats are from Priceless Shoes and were bought many Christmases ago as I needed a pair of dressy flats for an event. I loved these so much that I got them in purple too. I took the opportunity to save these on Wednesday when it was bright and dry (fabric shoes and rain do not mix). I just need another fine day now to save the purple pair!

11-06-14b

This dress was bought in a charity shop and every time I put it on I marvel at how well it fits me. There is nothing on the label other than the size and washing instructions so I don’t know whether it was a sample, a reject because the stripes don’t line up at the sides, or what. Whatever, I am just glad I found it and it only cost me a fiver.

11-06-14c

I have seven more pairs of shoes to save in the challenge now – it turned out that Tuesday’s wedges were missing from my list so they did nothing to reduce it. Gah.

Blue cardi – Next Tall (eBay)
Black and cream stripe dress – charity shop
Blue fabric flats – Priceless Shoes
Blue necklace – Primark
Silver hoops – gifted
Blue bangle – Diamonds and Pearls
Black and silver studded belt – free with some trousers

RI Red wedges

I lay the blame for my purchase of these wedges squarely at the feet of Amber. She has the same ones and talked so much about how comfortable they were that I had to go and try them for myself. And she was right. They are comfortable. I’m just sad that they’re made of canvas so I can’t wear them more often as we don’t get the weather. However, the shoes are from River Island and they are so high that I feel small when I take them off.

10-06-14e

It was a lovely day on Tuesday when I wore this outfit. I definitely wouldn’t have needed the long sleeve top had I not been at work, but the air conditioning drops to Arctic levels in the afternoons so I was definitely glad of the extra coverage.

Outfit: Shoeper Challenge 2013/14 Save 77 | How To Dress Up Distressed Jeans

06-06-14d

Esprit Diana silver heels

Three shoe saves in a week! Who am I?! If I can keep this pace up (I can’t) I will be done in 3 weeks time as I only have 8 pairs left to save. This silver pair are by Esprit and came c/o Sarenza last year. I chose them as I needed to replace my previous silver heels which got trashed when I fell on black ice the winter before and scraped all the backs of the heels. To me, silver heels are a closet staple so I am pleased to still have a pair in my collection.

06-06-14

It is entirely possible to dress up distressed jeans, simply by adding a blazer and heels. Although I suppose you could argue that the distressed jeans casualise (totally a word!) the blazer and heels. I kept the rest of the ensemble casual and neutral with this neon printed tank top and silver jewellery.

06-06-14b

I tried something different with my hair today. I tipped my head upside down and sprayed hairspray into the roots, in an attempt to get some volume. I think it kind of works and it gives it some texture and a bit of a messy look too.

06-06-14c

Anyway, have a great weekend everyone (it’s forecast to rain here: boo) and I’ll see you next week.

Orange/coral blazer – c/o T M Lewin
Grey tank – DC Shoes Co (c/o Spartoo)
Jeans – H&M (gifted)
Silver shoes – Esprit (c/o Sarenza)
Silver cuff – M&S (free on 3 for 2)

NineWestPink

This is the dress I was going to wear on Tuesday, but didn’t. It was still wet and rainy on Wednesday morning, but I guess I was in more of a dress mood so went with it. I also managed to save another pair of shoes, albeit not a pair suited to the rain.

04-06-14c

These shoes were bought in the Debenhams sale several years ago now. They are by Nine West which is one of my favourite brands. They’re pretty comfy thanks to the fairly low heel, the strap and the little layer of padding under the ball of the foot. They are definitely summer shoes with their pale pink, almost nude, colour and their many, many cut outs.

04-06-14b

The dress was purchased from a charity shop because I love the colour and I took a pair of scissors to the hem for a DIY shortening job.

Blue cardi – Ethel Austin
Blue dress – Wallis (charity shop)
White tank – Zara (sale)
Pink shoes – Nine West (Debenhams, sale)
Blue necklace – New Look (sale)
Silver hoops – gifted
Blue bangle – Diamonds and Pearls
