We had a road trip over to Bempton today with a friend, to visit our friends who are back from Australia. They were having a bit of a party at their parents’ house. We had a lovely afternoon and stopped off at Bempton Cliffs to see the sea on the way home. It was dull and grey and drizzly so we didn’t stay long.

I ended up untucking my sweater from the skirt as I think it gives a more flattering silhouette that way. I love the button detail on the sleeves of this sweater.

Review: FitFlop SuperTone Trainers

I was lucky enough to be sent a pair of the new FitFlop trainers to test out this week. If you are familiar with the original FitFlop flip flops you will know that they can help to tone your legs and bum whilst you walk. This is the same concept but in a trainer, ideal for the autumn/winter season. The FitFlop SuperTone has a leather upper and lining, making it a supremely breathable shoe. I was sent a size 8 and they are a generous fit. I wore my pair all day yesterday – we ran some errands in the morning and I took a walk up to the retail park in the afternoon. I am pleased to report that the SuperTone trainers are very comfortable and I could definitely feel a pull in my legs walking uphill.

Outfit: Shoeper Challenge #72 and Jeggings

These grey boots were bought for about £8 in Ethel Austin, just before it went into administration the first time. I had not come across Ethel Austin until I moved house 3.5 years ago as there are no stores near where I used to live. These boots are super comfy as they have very low heels. A testament to this is that I’ve walked so much in them that they are in need of reheeling. As are the pair I had on yesterday. A trip to the cobbler is definitely in order for tomorrow morning or next week.

So, on to the jeggings. When jeggings first appeared about 2 years ago, they were mostly jersey leggings, printed to look like denim. Nowadays, many pairs actually are denim and are more like skinny jeans with an elasticated waist. The pair I have on today even have back pockets and a watch pocket, and are made of stretch denim. But because the legs are so skinny they are ideal to tuck into boots and the elastic waistband means less bulk at the top as they don’t need a belt. I had to wash them before wearing as they are so overdyed they turned my hands blue when I tried them on in the shop.

Outfit: Windy Wednesday

When I got off work yesterday what I really wanted to do was go home and take a nap. What I made myself do was go for a swim. The pool was like a crèche – far too many children taking private swimming lessons. I don’t mind when it’s a class lesson as they rope off one section of the pool and use that for the kids. But with the private tuition there is one instructor per child, and the instructor is in the water too. The pool is only 20 metres long so you can imagine that it fills up pretty quickly. It’s just a shame that the time that is most convenient for me to swim is also the time that children are allowed in the gym. When I got home, I made tea, fixed a hole in the young man’s sweater (whilst watching Neighbours), ate tea, did the ironing and went to the drama group committee meeting. Busy evening!

It’s grey and windy again today and I really didn’t want to get out of my cosy bed this morning. I could hear the wind and what I thought was rain lashing the window. When I got up though it wasn’t actually raining so it must have just been the wind making all the noise. Jeans and a sweater are just the thing for that kind of weather, and it’s chilly enough in the mornings now to need to add a jacket too.

It was dull and grey when I got up this morning. It won’t be long until it is still dark when I get up on Mondays and Fridays (my early starts). It is forecast to rain today but still to reach a high of 18 degrees so I went for socks again. I decided to use my new tunic as a top and to get another wear in of my newly altered skirt. I am impressed with my taking in skills – the seams look very neat and I don’t think you could tell it’s be adjusted unless you knew.

We have been invited out to a Chinese buffet for my cousin’s birthday this evening so it’s straight home this afternoon to get ready for that.
