I’ll write about my trip at some point when I have more time, but the short version is that we went to Sydney for some friends’ wedding, stayed there for three weeks, then stopped off in Dubai for a couple of days on the way home.

We stayed in Manly, a suburb in northern Sydney and a ferry ride across the harbour from the city. It was a lovely little town and had a good array of shops – not that I went in any of them until the last couple of days. I had spied in the town guide that there was a vintage store called Sammy and Sid a short distance out of the town centre and made the trek out there one morning. I was glad I did as I found the dress I am wearing today. It is from the 1960s and is the perfect fit on me – unusual as I am so tall. It is labelled Peter Shire (a quick Google search turned up nothing about the label) and doesn’t say where it was made. It is marked a 14 but the lady in the shop had sized it as a modern 10. I’m not sure how Australian sizes equate to British ones, but it fits me and I love it!

I am back to work today – joy. It is cold and raining and the office heating is on the blink (as is the kettle) so I’m glad it’s Thursday and I only have two days to work this week.

Red dress – vintage
Black polo neck – New Look Tall
Black tights – M&Co
Black boots – Arturo Chiang (Century 21)
Silver hoops – gifted

Total Est. Cost £146

  1. Good to see you back, Fi - looking forward to hearing all about the trip!

That dress is perfect on you - it would've been criminal to have left it behind :)

  2. Love the dress - what a find! An Australian size 10 will be an English 8 - Australian and New Zealand sizes are the same so it's the only country where I don't have to do complicated maths in my head to figure out the sizes. (Yes, -2 is complicated!)

  3. Thank ladies!
I couldn't leave it behind when I saw how well it fit. But I don't think it can really be an Australian 10 then - there's no way I'm a UK 8!

  4. An Australian size 10 is a UK10-12. I wear 6AU and 8UK...& I'm a Pom who has lived in Sydney for 10 years who still misses shopping in England.

The dress looks fab by the way. Hope you loved Sydney & managed to get some sunshine...we have had such a rainy Nov...I think it has been the coldest start to summer for 70 years!!
