Outfit: December 15th – Christmas Jumper Day

20171215_140255

The penultimate Friday before Christmas (I wanted to say the Friday before Christmas, but that would be Friday 22nd December. To me it felt like the Friday before Christmas as I finished work the following Tuesday) was Christmas Jumper Day in the UK. So we all donned our sweaters and what a festive looking office we had that day. I was pushed for time that morning (laundry got in the way of blog photos!) so this was the only photo I got, but it’s the same jumper I’ve had for the past couple of years.

Well I warned you you’d see it again…and with still 10 days to go til Christmas when I wore this, there’s a good chance that this won’t be the last time! Ditto the red jumper.

It’s so dark at the moment on days when the sun isn’t out. The morning I wore this I got dressed, merrily went about my morning routine and it wasn’t until I got outside into what passes for daylight right now that I realised the tights I had on were navy blue. Not a good look between a black skirt and black boots when you have nothing else navy on! I don’t think you can tell from the photos, but I promise you they were navy. So I had to rush back inside, dig around and try to find a black pair (note to self: buy some more black fleece-lined tights) and quickly get changed. Gah.

Anyway, I was feeling particularly festive as I was off into Town that evening to finish up my Christmas shopping with my little sister.

I lost count of the number of times I was called ‘lady in red’, ‘very Christmassy’ or ‘very festive’ at work that day, just because my dress was red. And I work in a REALLY small office so pretty much everyone must have made a comment about it. I guess the red and white is kind of Christmassy, and paired with the red boots even more so. I had originally planned to put a black polo neck under the dress, but there was something off about how that looked so I switched it out for the red sweater instead.

I am aware that to many of you temperatures of minus 4˚C are nothing, but here, that COLD. Fortunately it wasn’t icy, just frosty, and everything looked pretty with the frost and remnants of the snow from the weekend (we got a little bit of snow, just nothing like the deluge that was forecast).

I have to text my boss when I am planning to wear this skirt as she has one very similar and we don’t want to turn up dressed the same! I paired it with my festive-but-not-Christmassy jumper and some tights which have metallic thread in them. I forgot I had these and found them when routing through my drawer in search of grey tights. They are ideal as they have pink and burgundy stripes in them.

Two weeks before Christmas we were promised Snowmaggedon. It didn’t really materialise in the Frozen North, although I hear the Midlands, Wales and the South did get it. The lack of snow didn’t stop it being cold though so I dug out my warmest item of clothing which is this dress, fleece-lined tights and my faux-sheepskin tall boots which were just right for the temperatures of -3˚C.

I gave this t shirt another airing last week though as I like it and it has a limited shelf life of pretty much December for wearing it. So I need to wear it whilst I can. I can’t promise you won’t see it a few more times before the month is out.

So, we had snow the morning I wore this! At 11.15pm the previous evening there was a lot of snow, and it was snowing heavily. By the morning though much of it had melted and we were left with a dusting which had then froze hard making THAT a fun walk to work. Hence being bundled up in a cosy cardi and my over the knee boots to keep warm.

It has been a LONG time since I’ve worn heels this high. I did not walk to work in them. Truth be told I wasn’t sure I would be able to walk in them at all, but I can. I don’t know how I used to walk around all day in them though. I think it was just a case of practise and that most of my heels were high. Now that I mostly wear flats these boots feel really high! This pair of jeans needs the heels though as they’re super long (I think they’re a 37” inside leg), which is why I don’t wear these jeans very often.

I’ve had these boots since 2003 when I purchased them on my first ever trip to New York City and they are still going strong (they’ve been re-soled and re-heeled but that’s to be expected over 14 years!). Which just shows that if you buy quality it will last a long time.

When I arrived at work in this outfit and took the blazer off, my co-worker said ‘Where’s Wally?’. And yes, I’ll give him that, this top is a little Where’s Wally. But I like it and I think the red and white is quite festive, especially when paired with the red boots.

This is a dress that I wore in the summer and autumn, either by itself or with a cardigan over it. The fancy sleeves mean it is easier to layer underneath it though, which is exactly what I did this day. I have a collection of lightweight polo necks which are ideal for putting under dresses, sweaters and shirts.

Oh yes they are! I decided to go a little bit festive as one of my tasks for the day was to decorate the work Christmas tree. It was icy out that morning, hence the boots. Not that they were much use, I still managed to slip over on my way to work. Ouch.
