PMT Challenge - Days 27-31 Catch Up

Here's the second installment of my PMT outfit round up posts!

Day 27

The second day of my weekend away, this was great in the rain. I subbed out the denim jacket that was suggested for a cardigan as it was easier to pack!

I’ve worn my cotton sweater dress already this season, but this was the first outing of one that actually looks and feels like jumper material. I think that a sweater dress is a really easy way to look like you’ve made an effort (you’re wearing a dress, you’ve made an effort, right?) when you really haven’t (you’re actually just wearing a long jumper and what is comfier than that?). Add some tights, boots and perhaps some statement jewellery and you will be comfy and cosy all day long. I added a scarf for a bit of colour.

Another day of torrential rain meant another day in boots. I wasn’t intending wearing boots quite so early, but it was either that or wet feet, and I hate wet feet. I was going to wear my over the knee boots, a flat heeled grey pair, but with the length of the dress it just looked too much for so early in the season. I don’t want to put on dark tights too early either, a little bit of leg on show lightens up a look just enough whilst it is still mild out.

The Saturday just gone was the Last Night of the Proms concert on the BBC, and that always kind of marks the end of the summer for me. The Proms concert season runs July to September every year and although I’m not really interested in them, I try to watch the Last Night if I can. It’s like the official start of autumn.

I feel like the start of September is a good time to pull out my biker jacket collection. The mornings are getting chillier but nowhere near needing an actual coat. A biker jacket or a blazer makes the perfect outer layer until the sun warms the place up a little later on in the day.

This green one is from Primark and they were thin on the ground when I got this one back in July. I suspect that only the black colourway may be available by now but it’s worth checking a few stores as you never know. I like that the underside of the sleeves has a stretchy fabric panel as I often find jacket sleeves to be so narrow they impede movement. No such problem with this one!

These shoes were destined for the bin after this day’s outing. The lovely turquoise colour had all cracked and peeled off and they were a bit of a mess really. They only cost £3.50 so you can’t really expect much I suppose, but a few more wears would have been nice.

I am in a tall clothing buy/sell group on Facebook and this jacket was purchased on there for just £5 (which included postage so was a total bargain). It’s from Long Tall Sally’s long defunct Tall Zone range (any tall ladies out there remember that?!) which was a range LTS ran for a few seasons around 2000-2002, aimed at the younger market I think. I remember having a pair of flared jeans with sequins on the leg from Tall Zone. The jacket is therefore old but thanks to LTS’s quality, still in really good condition. It’s a sort of grey/brown colour (the label says chocolate but I say it depends on the light as to whether it’s grey or brown…) and is made of cotton but fully lined. I ignored the dry clean only instruction and put it through my washing machine on a gentle cycle and it came out fine.

The top is also LTS, but I added the appliques to cover a grease stain I managed to get on the front of it. Go me…

Outfit: June 27th – For A Change

I hadn’t worn this top in ages, and I thought I’d wear it the right way round for a change (I often wear it backwards as I like the cross over straps that are supposed to go at the back to be on show at the front. The neckline dips around the same amount at the back and front so it doesn’t really matter which way around you wear it.

The rain that was forecast arrived and I actually carried these turquoise shoes to work in my bag and wore boots to walk in as it was so wet.

We were promised a fine, sunny day on Thursday so I put some washing on and toddled off to work. At lunchtime I popped home and put it all out on the line, confident it would dry in the blazing sunshine. About 4pm the heavens opened and it poured down. For about half an hour. So thanks for that, May.

I kept my outfit simple with an all black ensemble and put my faux leather jacket over it in the morning chill. I added some pops of turquoise/teal to brighten up the black.

Having spent much of the previous day feeling cold I was taking no chances on Friday and put on my 80% wool sweater. Super cosy!

I decided to distress these jeans a little more: they’d had a hole in the left knee for the past couple of year (genuine distressing from when I fell over!) so I cut a hole in the other knee and added some thin patches on the thighs. I’m pretty pleased with how it looks.

Outfit: March 15th – Navy Suit, Sort Of

It was another beautifully sunny day on Wednesday. I wore a mis-matched navy suit (the jacket is a little lighter than the pants) and dressed it down with sneakers and stripes as there is no need to wear a suit in my office. I love this little navy blazer. I bought it on eBay with the matching skirt about four or five years ago for about £10. The skirt was too small so I sold it on, but for that price I didn’t mind just having the jacket and it has certainly been worn enough to bring its cost per wear into fairly low pence.

The pants I got in Next last year when I was temping and needed some smarter work trousers. When my previous office went casual full time I didn’t bother to replace many of my smarter trousers so when I suddenly had to smarten myself up again I was short. They are not supposed to be cropped, that’s just what Next’s long length looks like on me (and probably why Next and all other retailers should rethink their definition of ‘long’). It was spring though, so it didn’t really matter. And the top is ancient H&M – I also have the red version of this and purchased the navy colourway as I knew the sleeve length was good on the red one for a non-tall item. But also because, buttons on the sleeves and shoulder.
