Next black & cream

I paired my burgundy blouse top with my jeans and heels last Monday for a smart casual office look. I tucked the front section only to show off the zip pockets on my jeans and left the back flowing loose. Despite Sunday afternoon being warm and sunny, Monday morning dawned overcast and chilly again so I added the cardi to keep warm.

How To Make Ballet Flats More Comfortable

I am tired of my boots by this point in the year, but it’s still not that warm out – not really warm enough for bare feet in ballet flats, that’s for sure. And in the summer when it is warm I don’t know about you, but I find my shoes can rub my feet. The obvious answer to this would be to wear socks but socks with ballet pumps? That’s not cute. Fortunately it’s Primark to the rescue again with their shoe liner socks. Now don’t get too excited: the pack claims that they are invisible under shoes but worn the right way around they are not: the front part is cut too low. However, turn them around and wear them backwards and they are nigh on perfect.

I have two styles – the plain black ones which are £3.50 for a pack of five pairs, and the multi-coloured ones which are £2.50 for a pack of three pairs. They keep your feet warmer than the traditional ‘pop socks’ (knee high tights) do, and sometimes you can’t be dealing with knee highs under particularly skinny jeans so these socks are the answer.

Primark Black Lace Up

This top is the sister of the burgundy one in last week’s post. I love the black and white check and it’s really comfortable and easy to wear, yet it’s a step up from a long sleeved t shirt.

As always at this time of the year, I live in hope that the weather might soon start to warm up. This week has been fairly sunny, if not exactly warm, and it occurred to me that (hopefully) it might soon be too warm for OTK boots, so I’d better wear them whilst I still can. So that is what I did, on Tuesday of this week.

Georgia Rose red patent flats

This past weekend I went to Birmingham with my friend S. We did a little shopping on Friday afternoon in the city centre and I managed to snag a few bargains in what’s left of the spring sales. The skirt was only £5 (reduced from £10) and the jacket was down to £4.99 (from £23, it was marked down to £9.99 but then F21 had a further 50% off all sale items – love it!). The top was full price, but at £9 it was hardly expensive.

This blouse is actually really nice, it’s a heavy fabric that hangs well and can be worn tucked in like this, loose over jeans or half and half – there are splits at the side so that the front can be tucked and the back left loose. I may have bought it in a few other colours too…

I’m obsessed with zips on clothing at present – case in point the back view of this outfit. The top has a zip and so does the skirt. (Confession: the skirt is actually supposed to zip up the front which I didn’t realise until I got it home, having tried it on the wrong way. But it fits either way around and I prefer the zip in the back so whatever works, right?)

Matalan cream black quilt MJs

Last Saturday morning I cut my hair and then couldn’t resist playing dress up with the new dress I got in the Topshop sale the other week. It was on the sale rack and isn’t a tall, but look how long the sleeves are! And how long the skirt is! And how the twisty bit in the middle actually sits on my waist! Perhaps it was mis-labelled and was supposed to be a tall. I don’t know. But when I tried it on I knew I had to have it as it was marked down to £10. When I got it to the till it rang up as £7! LOVE it when that happens! Utter bargain.

A friend at work recently gifted these jeans to me (they were too long for her) and I am loving them. I do have another pair of black jeans but they don’t get worn that often and I don’t know why. This was this pair’s third or fourth outing in a week and a half.

Cashmere sweaters are great and super cosy, but when wearing a black one over a white shirt you need to keep a sticky roller handy for defuzzing the shirt.

The shoes were a Christmas present from my mom, and this was their first wear as it has just been too cold for flats. It was still too cold that day really, but I was just so sick of boots by that point.
