It was just 5˚C the morning I wore this. That is chilly! I didn’t even get too warm walking to work all bundled up in a big scarf. Hello autumn, nice to see you again. So this lightweight knit was the perfect thing to wear – layered under a faux leather jacket and big scarf first thing, not too warm later on when the sun came out properly.

I think these shoes also came in black and I am tempted to go back for them because when you find a good pointed toe flat, you have to buy all the colours, right?

So that’s it, the first pair of OTK boots this season are out. It was actually a little too warm for these last Monday: by the time I’d walked to work my legs were sweating, but whatever. These are great boots and they were only £22. Yes, you read that right: £22. From Primark of course, where else are you going to get boots for that price? They have them in black and navy too and they go up to a size 9 in the wide fittings so get yourself down there.

This dress was probably a little short for nude tights, but my motto has always been the taller the boots the less short the dress looks so I think I got away with it. Just.

Different coloured stripes today, rather than my usual navy and white/black and white. I was going to put my leopard print sneakers with this, but thought it might be a bit much, so I went for these neutral ankle boots instead.

The only flaw with this jacket is that it doesn’t have pockets. Other than that it’s a great fit and a lovely, soft moleskin-like fabric.

Given my love of my grey sweatshirt right now, I feel like I should be wearing this striped to more than I currently am. It is, to all intents and purposes, a sweatshirt (albeit a lightweight one). It has cuffs at the hem and sleeve ends and the fabric is stretchy with a looped back. The only problem with it is that it isn’t quite long enough in the body for my liking as it’s Forever 21, not a tall brand. I love it, but is it time to let it go? By the time you read this I will probably have switched over my wardrobe, pulling out my autumn/winter items and storing away some more summery pieces for the upcoming season. I take that opportunity to go through what I have and if there are things I haven’t worn all year I put them on a pile to either eBay or donate to charity. It’s refreshing and makes a bit of space so I can see more clearly what I have. And pulling out items from storage is like getting a load of new stuff with no cost. There’s usually at least one thing I’ve forgotten about and it’s a joy to discover it again.

It happened: I put on dark tights for the first time this season (they are navy blue, not black, I really need to sort my lighting out!). It’s only because this dress is so short though, I will be back in flesh coloured ones next week I promise.

Having worn my hair straight for three days straight (see what I did there?) now, I rather like it. My default hairstyle is waves but this week I have been trying out the Batiste plumping powder and thought straight hair would be better for that. The powder is meh, it’s OK but doesn’t add as much volume as I’d hoped. What I do like though is the Batiste 2 in 1 dry shampoo and conditioner (they had 3 for 2 on hair products in Boots last week, can you tell?). If you dislike dry shampoos as they make your hair really dry and gritty, try this. It freshens up your hair but you afterwards you can’t tell you’ve applied product. It’s fab!

Finally, can you tell I love me some Primark? Everything bar my tights is from there today, even the faux leather jacket I didn’t photograph. And the whole lot (including the jacket) cost about £44. You can’t argue with that.

So this outfit looked better in my head than I think it does here. Isn’t it annoying when that happens? I mean, it’s OK, but it would be better with heels. Or non-lace up shoes, or something.

Another day of torrential rain meant another day in boots. I wasn’t intending wearing boots quite so early, but it was either that or wet feet, and I hate wet feet. I was going to wear my over the knee boots, a flat heeled grey pair, but with the length of the dress it just looked too much for so early in the season. I don’t want to put on dark tights too early either, a little bit of leg on show lightens up a look just enough whilst it is still mild out.

The Saturday just gone was the Last Night of the Proms concert on the BBC, and that always kind of marks the end of the summer for me. The Proms concert season runs July to September every year and although I’m not really interested in them, I try to watch the Last Night if I can. It’s like the official start of autumn.

I reached the end of the first full week back at work after my holiday, and so I was especially pleased to get to Friday. We woke up to torrential rain which, yeah, not so pleased about but it did give me chance to put on my new boots! Aren’t they the coolest? They’re the Primark dupe of the Chloe Susanna boots and I’m not usually into buying designed dupes but I was looking for some flat(ish) ankle boots, and I loved the silver hardware on these. They were only £16 too, which is about 2% of the price of the real thing. Primark have them in black and I think red too, but the hardware on those is gold which I didn’t want. They are quite a generous fit, Primark’s size 8 is usually tight on me, especially when the toe is pointy and I have to size up to a wide fit (which these are not, and I don’t think this style comes in wide fit) but I tried this pair on anyway, just in case, and what do you know they are a generous fit! So you may need to size down if you don’t have big clown feet like I do.

I paired them with distressed denim (what else?) and a t shirt and blazer because despite the rain it wasn’t going to be too chilly.
