I love me some Primark as much as the next girl, but recently it has started to take over my wardrobe as evidenced by today’s outfit which, bar the tights, is all from Primarni! (Or Premier Mar-ket as my friend S likes to call it.) If you have watched more than one of the countless Primark Haul videos that I can’t get enough of on You Tube then chances are you will have seen this skirt. It comes in at least 4 or 5 colours (it seems like every time I go into a store it has been released in a new colour) and almost everyone on You Tube has one. I didn’t know that when I bought mine back in July though, I just thought it was a nice little skirt and for £8 you can’t really go wrong. I think it’s supposed to be high waisted really, but I sized up a couple of sizes so that it would sit lower on my hips and in turn give me a little more length.

The sweater is last winter Primark and the boots are this year. I almost bought the tan version a couple of weekends ago but the studs are gold (that’s the only thing keeping me from getting the red ones too, well, that and the fact that I’ve yet to see a size 8 in the red) and I decided I didn’t really need them.

It was finally time for thick tights the second week of October and so out came the grey ribbed pair which are still going strong after about five years of wear. Well done H&M.

Outfit: October 6th – Cat Shirt and A Lesson About Prince of Wales Check

This shirt was bought back in March for Comic Relief and has been languishing in my closet ever since. It may be a Comic Relief shirt but it’s also a nice length white top with a cute cat picture on the front and I thought the grey and white would pair nicely with this blazer, which it does.

Speaking of this blazer, I have just Googled to find out why Prince of Wales check (which this blazer is) is so called. Apparently that’s just a nickname – the fabric is actually called Glenurquhart check after the valley of Glenurquhart in Scotland where the Countess of Seafield first used it to outfit her gamekeepers (according to Wikipedia that is). The nickname comes from when the fabric was popularised by the Duke of Windsor when he was Prince of Wales (he would briefly become King Edward VIII prior to his abdication in 1936, before being styled the Duke of Windsor). So now we know a little about the history of fashion’s current favourite check.

I am such a fall cliché of myself, apparently. Looking back at my Timehop for 5th October, on this day in the past 10 years I talked about eating homemade apple cake (I just made some the weekend of September 30th/October 1st this year), I wore burgundy (I wore burgundy yesterday), I talked about putting an extra cover on my bed (I was totally tempted to do that this week, it will happen before the weekend). I guess I’m just a creature of habit at this time of year.

This day was lovely and sunny and on days like that you don’t need a coat. I just threw on a cosy plaid scarf over my outfit and I was plenty warm enough outside.

I picked up these shoes in the George sale at ASDA and they were just £7. Can’t really go wrong with that, can you? They give a bit more coverage on a chilly morning than a ballet flat, and the soles are lovely and thick (I think they’re a driving loafer really) so it kind of feels like you’re walking around on a pillow.

On reflection I think a white top would have been better than the grey knit with this jacket. The camera has done funny things to the Prince of Wales check on the jacket though, so perhaps that’s what’s skewing my opinion on reviewing the pictures.

More OTK boots in this outfit! I can’t get enough of them, apparently. This pair are from ASOS and I was excited to learn a couple of weeks ago (via a Facebook group for tall people that I’m a member of) that ASOS have expanded their awesome Tall range to include boots. Now I’m not sure whether the boot shaft is longer than it usually would be, possibly, but the Tall boots are available in a UK 9 and a UK 10. Now, don’t get too excited, I have always found ASOS footwear to come up small and this pair is no exception – they are labelled a 10/43 (which all large-footed ladies know is not really a 10 at all) and I would say they are true to size 43 – they are definitely not a UK 10. For me though, this is fine and I’m glad I sized up as I am sure the 9/42 would be tight.

I paired my boots – with a little skirt from Topshop’s Tall range and a very autumnal burgundy top which I’ve had two years now and is still going strong, despite regular wear.

These boots are the sister pair of the black ones I wore the previous day. I like the black ones but wish they had a silver zip rather than a gold one. I feel like this grey pair will be very versatile over the coming months as grey goes with pretty much everything and they are a nice change from black boots.

This outfit is comfy and casual. It’s smart enough for the office but also casual enough for a trip out at the weekend.

Well, autumn must be officially here now that it’s October and to celebrate I wore a sweater dress (albeit a cotton knit one as it isn’t actually that cold yet) and over the knee boots. Yay! I’m still sticking with nude tights for the time being, it’s nowhere near chilly enough for thicker ones yet. I stuck my burgundy biker jacket over this to up the fall factor even further although by dinnertime I didn’t need it.

Outfit: October 1st – Christening

01-10-17

Just a quick snap of what I wore the first Sunday in the month when my friends’ little boy was being christened at church. It was such a lovely service, one of the retired ministers who knows us all so well lead the worship and there were some great hymns. There was a big lunch for the church family afterwards but I had to head home as we had the young man’s family coming over in the afternoon for a buffet tea.

I ditched the jacket in the afternoon as it was fairly warm, and the back seams are giving up on this one so I need to either fix it or bin it.

I bought this top back in the summer and then it was too warm to wear it. Now that it is the perfect temperature for long sleeve t shirts I got it out for an airing. I think it works great with a biker jacket over it.

I tried my burgundy one at first but then switched to the tan one from Tall Girls (who are no longer in business, sad face L) as it is more fitted and it paired better with my leopard print flats.

This Prince of Wales check jacket is fast becoming one of my favourites. I said the other day that the fabric was nice and thick and it felt warm. On closer inspection of the label I discovered that it is actually 9% wool so that will be why it feels so good. Well done Primark.

This dress looks like a t shirt dress but the fabric is actually a heavy-ish knit so it will work throughout the autumn and probably into the winter, layered up with tights and knitwear. And I’m smiling to myself at the thought of layering. Make of that what you will…
