Tuesday we were up and off in reasonable time. We had booked in to a hotel just outside Edinburgh but we took our time on the drive up there. We stopped in Barnard Castle and had some lunch in a pub, then went to High Force waterfall to look at the water. There was a lot of it:
We finally reached the hotel, checked in and had a meal in the restaurant. Our room had a sofa and chair in as our late booking meant we’d been upgraded to an Executive room:
Wednesday morning we headed into Edinburgh. It rained. Then the sun came out and we had a good time wandering around the city. We walked the length of Princes Street, went in the park, and walked down then back up the Royal Mile. We were parked by the castle which had got quite busy by mid-afternoon:
We returned to the hotel and had afternoon tea in the lounge:
It was delicious! Then we went to take advantage of the leisure facilities (and to try to burn off some of the afternoon tea) and had half an hour or so in the pool. That evening we just had a light meal in the lounge area.
Thursday morning we headed back south, stopping off in Berwick-Upon-Tweed and Bishop Auckland, before calling in at our local fish and chip restaurant on the way home. It rained whilst we were in there. Torrentially.
