Sorry if I made it sound like there was some big mystery on Friday as to what I was doing, there really wasn’t. The reason I needed a simple outfit was so that it would fit in with the capsule wardrobe I had packed for a long weekend away.
Sherborne Abbey
On Friday afternoon I drove down to Bristol to visit my friend S. We had a girls’ weekend planned and it was fab. Saturday we went into the city centre and spent the day wandering around the shops, having lunch, having coffee etc. That evening another friend joined us and we went out for burgers and drinks.
Sunday was really wet and horrid so we spent the morning watching the movie Flight, then drove down to S’s parents’ house in Yeovil. We were booked in to stay over there Sunday and Monday nights so we could go to Pack Monday fair in Sherborne on the Monday. Pack Monday is an old tradition, dating back to the 1400s when the workmen building the abbey finally finished and packed up their tools. There are various criteria to when it is held now (to do with the moon I think) but it’s always a Monday in October. These days it’s more of a pre-Christmas market than anything, but we had a great day out with S’s mum. In the evening S and I went back to soak up the atmosphere and we watched a chap from a farm shop practically giving away meat and cheese to the crowd as he probably wouldn’t be able to sell it the following day. Seriously, 5 slabs of cheese, 24 rashers of bacon, a 500g pack of ham and several things of Boursin all for a tenner was not to be sneezed at.
Pack Monday Fair
Tuesday S and I drove back to Bristol and went to a world buffet restaurant for lunch before I set off to drive back north.
