Curls

I bought some curling tongs on Saturday. I have tried several times (unsuccessfully) to curl my hair with my GHD straighteners, and decided curling tongs were the way to go. I asked for advice on Twitter and was told Babyliss made good one. Spying a set for £9.99 in Argos I went for it.

I had a little play around with them last night (and managed to get a minor burn on my face in the process) and I got some good waves and curls with them. I took a picture but as I didn’t use any styling spray or hairspray, the curls didn’t hold terribly well.

Curls

When I tweeted about curling tongs, my friend Kate piped up and said she couldn’t imagine me with curly hair. What she (and the rest of you) didn’t know was that I had a perm all through high school. I said I would dig out some pictures over the weekend and post them on here. Excuse the quality – it was the mid 1990s, digital cameras didn’t exist back then and these pictures have been scanned. So Kate, just for you:

  2. LOL, yeah I guess I have changed quite a bit. Folk still recognise me when I go back to school, mind you, I've not been back without my glasses yet.

  3. Talking about glasses it was apparently also the "huge round glasses" era :-). Do you actually still wear glasses?

  4. Oh, those photos are fantastic! I also had a perm in high school - I think it was one of those 90s rites of passage! Now I definitely think I'm better off sticking to tongs if I want some curls!

  5. Fred: I do still wear glasses but prefer my contact lenses now. It was definitely the era of huge round glasses back then! Remember Andrea on the original Beverley Hills 90210?

Amber: Thank you! It was definitely a 90s rite of passage having a perm - loads of people had them at my school.

  8. Yep, I do remember her :-). I think we're moving to larger frames again, as I found out while looking for small ones at the opticians... I like this plastic pair of yours very much btw!

  9. BoutiqueGirl: I don't look too bad in those old photos. There are plenty of me that I would never in a million years post online though!

Candycane: I would love to see some pictures of you in your younger days if you can find some to post!

    Fred: Thank you.
