Fashion Inspiration: What to Buy for the Autumn Months

The cooler weather is finally here and unless you’re taking a last minute summer holiday, chances are it’s time to hit the shops and find some warmer clothing. But don’t feel too glum as you pack away those summer frocks, as this season the high street is packed full of funky and affordable autumn attire.

Here is a look at five of the key looks and purchases for the cooler climate.

1. New Scarf

If there’s one accessory that can brighten up any winter day, it’s a great new scarf. Think bright, fun colours and interesting designs and patterns. Matching gloves or hats are always a great hit too – so why not accessorise your outfit head to toe?

2. Ankle Boots

Ankle boots are perfect for pairing with tight fitting, skinny jeans. Not only will they add a bit of height, they are also perfect for giving an elongating effect to the leg. They can also be paired with leggings, tights or if you’re feeling brave on a night out, black ankle boots will show off the last of your summer tan on bare legs!

An alternative to the boring old black high heel is a fun and flashy pair of silver shoes. Whether you’re more of a stiletto girl or perhaps on the hunt for a more casual jewelled sandal, silver shoes are perfect for brightening up any outfit and are ideal for formal occasions.

3. Leather Jacket

The autumn months are a bit of an awkward interim before the big chill of winter sets in. It’s not quite cool enough to warrant getting out the big coat, but a woollen cardigan isn’t quite doing its job. The perfect in-between option is a funky leather jacket. These can come in a range of styles, from the chic, close-cropped trend, to the retro inspired biker jacket.

4. Beret

Channel your continental cousins and get out some fancy headwear. This isn’t just a stylish addition to any outfit, the beret or beanie is perfect for taming any flyaway locks. Opt for either a chic French inspired beret in navy or red, or go old-school with a fun, chunky knit beanie complete with pom-pom on top.

5. Chunky Knits

There’s no better way to stay warm than with a chunky and stylish knit. These are perfect over skinny jeans or a faux leather mini and tights. Some of the best styles to keep an eye out for include ivory, burgundy, hunter green or mustard colours in a loose knit weave.
