The week before Christmas I was obsessed with wearing this red plaid scarf. There's just something so festive about it! This was just a simple jeans and sweater outfit for running errands - I got most of the Christmas supermarket shop completed that morning.

It's New Year's Eve so thank you all for reading in 2016 and here's to a happy 2017!

My last day in work before the holidays was also Christmas Jumper Day in the UK so of course, out came the obligatory holiday sweater and if you can’t wear deely boppers at Christmas (and say deely boppers as many times as you can throughout the day) when can you? They were a gift from my friend when we used to sing in a choir together and the back row of second altos would rebel in the Christmas concert and wear tinsel, headbands and allsorts that wasn’t really in the dress code. Our reasoning was that the orchestra was allowed tinsel so we should be too.

The young man, meanwhile, went to work wearing this:

Quite. (Oh and when you press the antler the nose lights up and it plays Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. I had a very productive evening on Tuesday and Wednesday of that week.)

I am embracing the bootcut jeans again this holiday season so that I can wear my red cowboy boots as they’re super festive. And much warmer than my red flats.

I forgot to put the extension pieces in the front of my hair before waving it, so I felt like it was saying ‘thank you very much for the country music award’, but hey ho. I knew the waves would drop during the day and they did.

Continuing my theme for the week of cosy sweaters, this is the twin of the one I had on the previous day. When the released it in burgundy for just £7.99 there was no way I wasn’t going to add it to my closet.

So last night I inadvertently learned how to dry my hair with volume using my diffuser. I was actually trying to see whether I could get waves using a serum rather than a mousse (I couldn’t) but the result was fairly straight hair with loads of volume at the root. I slept on it, finger combed it and the result is what you see here (obviously there was more volume before I slept on it, but that’s just the trade-off for washing your hair in the evening). You live and learn, and sometimes that lesson is a good one.

Continuing with the slouchy sweater theme, I wore one of my favourites. It feels like a fairly light knit to the touch but it is actually surprisingly warm. Too warm at times in my office, which is always lovely and cosy.

My hair is second day waves – I tied it up in a loose ponytail overnight, fixed a few sections with my waving wand in the morning and added some more gel spray for good measure.

I felt like cosy sweaters were the thing to wear in my last week of work before the holidays. My new company shuts down for two weeks over Christmas so it is like I’m getting school holidays again this festive season. And I couldn’t be happier about it.

In other news, I will probably do my hair like this for the next I don’t know how long (I probably won’t though). It’s more of a wave, less of a curl than I usually achieve and I love it! I got it to look like this (and this description is purely for my own reference you understand, so that when I look back at this post I will know what it was that I did to my hair that day) by trying to hold my waving wand vertically, by starting to curl higher up that I usually do, and by finger combing it through once the hair was cool before applying gel spray (the only thing which will hold a curl or wave in my hair at all).

I was trying to get more festive with my outfits given that it was mid-December, so I added my red plaid scarf to my green sweater. The previous evening was the Candlelight Carol Service at church which always gets me in the mood for Christmas. It is exactly what it sounds like – a carol service with the whole church lit only by candles and the Christmas tree lights and it’s just magical.

With the weather having turned so mild in the first full week of December a sweater wasn’t really necessary. This striped top is kind of double layered, so it’s warmer than a regular long sleeve t shirt but not as thick as an actual jumper. And despite it not being a tall item, it has lovely long sleeves (I think you’re supposed turn the cuffs back to show the narrower stripes on the inside) and it long in the body. It’s also reversible so I could have the whole thing be narrower stripes if I wanted (though I don’t think I’ve ever actually worn it that way).

At this stage in December usually I would not contemplate any footwear other than boots, but with the arrival of the milder weather I took the opportunity for a pair of shoes for a change.
