Outfit: Lazy Sunday

We got up late and after breakfast I went to the shop for a paper. We lazed around reading for a while and then had lunch in the conservatory before heading out for a walk via a couple of pubs. This is the outfit I started out in, I put on my black riding boots and a teal cord jacket for the walk.

Saturday Shopping Purchases

I did succumb and buy a few bits today – some colourful tights in preparation for Autumn and a lovely dark teal skirt in H&M.

Twitter Sign In Pop Up Box

If you keep getting a pop up from Twitter every time you try to read this blog, I’m sorry! It’s irritating me too and I don’t know how to stop it. If it comes to it I will remove my Twitter updates link, unless anyone has any ideas how to stop it?

Outfit: Day At The Coast

The young man and I decided to make the most of the only fine day this week and headed to the coast today. We stopped off on the North Yorkshire Moors on the way and then headed to Robin Hood’s Bay for lunch. Afterwards we continued up to Whitby. We walked around the town and found a lovely new restaurant to have our tea in.

Outfit: Two Outfit Thursday

I started off the morning in scruffy jeans and a t shirt as you can see in the first picture. Then the young man said he was taking me out for a pub lunch and so I quickly changed into something a little more presentable. I put on my red boots again in case the rain returned. Before this week I’d not worn them for ages and I’m remembering how much I love them so expect to see more of them!

Reader Mail

I got the following question from a reader:

Dear Shoegal,
I'm going to a wedding in November but all my dresses are fairly summery, and I can't afford a new one. How can I accessorize/layer in a classy but effective way so I don't freeze to my champagne flute?!
Chilly of Leeds

Dear Chilly of Leeds
I would suggest adding tights and either a long sleeve top underneath the dress or a cardigan or jacket over the top. Depending what the dress looks like, you could either go for grey or black additions, or alternatively, pick out one colour from the dress and use that – if it has any darker colours in it such as purple or dark green then these would be ideal additions to ‘winterise’ it. Then add some jewellery, heels and a smart coat and you will be all set.

Outfit: Evening Entertaining

I took a shower and got changed before my parents came over. We had a lovely evening – I cooked a lasagne and then we introduced them to the Wii. My mum got a bit over excited when she got a strike at bowling.

Outfit: Wednesday

We’re just having a quiet week around the house this week. I went to the supermarket this morning to pick up a few items as we’ve invited my parents to tea today. I also stopped in at Boots and got some Clinique face blotting tissues (and another Bonus Time free gift pack – little sister this one has your name on it!), picked up some magazines in Borders and claimed my free Galaxy Ripple chocolate bar in WH Smith (thanks Company magazine!).

This afternoon I’ve been tidying up the house and will be preparing the tea in a while.

The 1000th Post

This is my 1000th post! It’s taken just over 2 years but here we are. Quite a milestone I feel. I am so proud of this blog and I love writing a post each day (or whenever I can). I may not get the largest readership but I don’t think I’m doing too badly considering I started blogging for myself really. The idea was that I had an outlet for all my fashion and style related thoughts so I didn’t bore the young man and anyone else around me. This way, if you’re reading it voluntarily you must be interested in what I have to say. I hope you continue to read and enjoy for the next 1000 posts!

This Week I Will Be Mostly…

…wearing casual jeans all week
…reading the September issue of Elle magazine
…watching the last episode of Gok’s Fashion Fix
…listening to the new hi fi system!
…eating lunch at home
…shopping for magazines

Outfit: Patriotic Tuesday

We have finally got the new hi fi system set up and it sounds amazing! We went to pick up the speakers this morning and then the young man wired them up. All of my CDs have now been liberated from the loft and so I have vast choices of what to play. The young man has even attached a lead to play his iPod through the speakers and he’s currently upstairs transferring more music onto it.

The young man and I have the week off work and so this morning we headed out to buy a new hi fi system. The speakers we wanted were not in stock but we can pick them up tomorrow. We also went to a couple of other places to get speaker stand and various cables and jacks so we can hook up the record player and tv to the new amplifier. So just a basic outfit for running around and a for a trip to the supermarket.

Outfit: Sunday Lunch

The young man’s niece was 3 yesterday and his dad was 65 last weekend. We all headed over to his sister’s house and went out for Sunday lunch at a nearby pub. It was raining (again) so boots were a necessity but as I knew I wouldn’t be walking far I felt I could ignore my ‘note’ from yesterday.

Note To Self…

…when it’s raining, you need to tuck your jeans into your boots or they are going to get soaked.

Outfit: Saturday Shopping

The young man and I headed out today to look at new hi fi equipment as the one we had broke a few weeks ago. It was pouring with rain so boots were a necessity.

For Goodness Sake!

I don’t want to be disloyal to my fellow Yorkshire folk but really? The people of Selby need to find something better to do with their time!

Review: Gok’s Fashion Fix

How much do I love this show? I think it’s the last episode next week and my Thursday evenings will be duller without it, that’s for sure. I’d never seen anything with Gok in it before, and I have definitely been missing out as he’s fabulous!

In case you’ve not seen it, the main concept is this: each week there’s a theme and 4 fashionistas have an unlimited budget to create a look each within this theme. Gok has £800 to create 4 looks from the high street.

Last night’s theme was ‘red carpet’ and the fashionistas finally lost the plot. The buyer from Harrods pick out a dress (which looked see through to me) and announced “it’s quite pricey at £3,560. Actually, no, that’s not so bad. We have dresses here that cost forty or fifty thousand”. And then the buyer at Selfridges added a bracelet to her outfit that cost £68,000. This pushed the total of all four designer outfits to over £106,000. As I said to the TV last night: you could have a house for that!

Outfit: Tall Friday

I was promised sunshine for today by the BBC website and had planned to wear my brown peep toe platforms. But when I got up this morning it was raining and so an alternative footwear choice was necessary. As these jeans are so long, it had to be something with a very high heel. I’ve not worn these boots for ages and boots are perfect in the rain. They have a 4” heel so fitted the bill perfectly. Consequently, I’m all leg today, but that happens to me a lot anyway. And the sun has come out now. Typical!

The inspiration for this outfit was the new makeup I got at Boots yesterday. I bought an Urban Decay eye pencil in Electric (a turquoisey-green colour) and got a brown eye shadow free in the Clinique Bonus Time box when I stocked up on foundation. I am wearing both today and needed an outfit to match!

Brown boots – Caravelle Fine Leather (Brantano)
Brown & silver bangles – Dorothy Perkins
