Weekending in Warwick

18-11-12

Georgia Rose tan boots

We spent this weekend in Warwick with some friends who had driven up from Bristol. We arrived at our hotel, a quaint little pub on the outskirts of the town centre, mid-morning on Saturday then had a walk into the town. We had lunch at the tea room attached to the Lord Leycester Hospital and then had a wander around. We returned to the hotel and checked in, then headed over to Leamington Spa in the car for the afternoon. I really like Leamington Spa, it has some lovely buildings, so I was pleased to be able to visit it again.

Warwick Castle

Saturday evening we had a meal in our hotel and then sat by the log fire with a drink. Sunday morning a full English breakfast was served, then we went to Warwick Castle. The entrance fee to the castle is extortionate (£30.60 per adult!) but we had some two for one vouchers so it wasn’t as bad. If you visit Warwick Castle it is well worth the extra cost to go on the tour of the dungeons. There are live actors all the way around and it is very well done. The Merlin Tower on the other hand? Yeah, not so much. We spent a good 5 hours at the castle then headed back into the town to find a pub for Sunday lunch. We had a lovely roast dinner and then went back to the hotel for a cup of tea before we went our separate ways home.

The young man and I got home just after 7pm and as we were still full of lunch just had some parkin and custard in front of the TV. I thoroughly enjoyed the weekend in Warwick, it is a lovely town and I’d like to go again in the spring or summer when we can perhaps enjoy the walk between there and Leamington Spa when there is more daylight.
