It may have been milder out last week, but it was still January so boots and a sweater were still requirements really. This sweater is lightweight but cosy, especially with a long sleeved layer underneath it. But what’s the point of stripes if you can’t see them, right? I cuffed the sleeves of the sweater to allow the stripes (and the buttons) to poke out a little. In an ideal world the striped top would be longer in the body so it would show at the bottom of the sweater too, but when you’re as tall as me that isn’t going to happen often. (Side note: I do actually have a red striped top that is way longer in the body, but the sleeves on that one are only ¾ length so it’s one or the other unfortunately.) I added my red tartan blanket scarf so that I was able to wear a jacket again, and I was glad I had as it was decidedly chilly in my office first thing.

We had a couple of milder days mid-January so I was able to wear a biker jacket rather than a full on coat. Biker jackets are my favourite outer layer so I was really pleased about that. These black jeans from F+F at Tesco are super stretchy and therefore very comfortable. I love the zip details and the higher waist allowed me to pair them with this cropped length jumper.

Confession: these boots are a little on the small side (especially with thicker tights) so when I got to work I changed into the back up pair I keep under my desk. I think the brown pair are destined for eBay.

This is the first time I’ve worn this sweater this winter I think, which is ridiculous as it’s one of my favourites. I just haven’t been feeling in a brown kind of mood recently. Which is also ridiculous as I wear tan boots ALL the time, and what goes with tan better than brown?! Exactly.

Sweater – Long Tall Sally
Skirt – Jasper Conran (Debenhams, sale)
Tights – TK Maxx
Boots – Debenhams (sale)

This sweater may be mostly purple, but it goes with a ton of colours due to the print. The khaki green of my trousers is included, as is the lilac of the scarf. The scarf was doing double duty as an accessory and keeping my front warm! The sweater is 30% wool on the back and sleeves which is quite cosy, but the front is a thin, satiny fabric which provides no warmth at all. They could have done with making a fully knitted sweater and then attaching the front panel, for nesh girls like me! Come spring though the sweater is fine as it is, but you don’t always want to ‘save’ particular items for certain times of year.

I have been coveting a dress like this ever since I saw Audrey of Putting Me Together www.puttingmetogether.com (one of my favourite blogs right now!) wearing her similar Old Navy one. I think that exact dress is still available, and comes in a Tall, but as we don’t have Old Navy in the UK (why not?) I didn’t want to fork out for shipping. So I turned to eBay and found this alternative (BNWT) for around £10. You can’t tell because of the cardi, but the dress sleeves are super long – couldn’t be a more perfect length on me in fact! And that does NOT happen when buying cheap off of eBay.

I wanted to wear this dress with my tan boots, but it just didn’t look right with the black tights. I’ll try it next time. I’m thinking it would work better with nude tights and tan boots when the spring comes.

I didn’t do much with my hair this day as it was damp and miserable outside, and that kind of weather just causes my hair to frizz up so there was no point straightening it.

Sunday was wet to start with, but then it brightened up so I headed out for a walk. I wore trainers for walking, but I liked the boots with the rest of the outfit. I decided to try to layer this grey top over something else as it’s a bit thin and open for wearing by itself in cold weather. I didn’t want to part with my striped thermal, so I layered one over the other.

Top – Dorothy Perkins Tall
Striped thermal – M&S outlet
Jeans – Next Tall
Boots – F+F at Tesco (sale)

So, it snowed. We had little more than a dusting (a centimetre at most) but it was, as you would expect, COLD. I layered up. What you can’t see here is my camisole base layer, and my M&S thermal top. Wearing long socks inside your boots definitely keeps you warmer and it also provides another element to the layering.
