Outfit: Distressed Denim and Jewelled Sandals
Day 8 of the good weather (Saturday) and we headed out for a day in Knaresborough. It was the annual Knaresborough Bed Race so the town was packed. We knew it would be so we parked just outside and enjoyed a walk through the woods to get there.
I’ve never been to the Bed Racing before, but the whole town had turned out for the event. There were around 90 teams taking part and there was a carnival-type parade of all the beds and teams in their fancy dress through the town before the actual race. This year’s theme was Myths and Legends so there were plenty of dragons, some aliens and even the Star Wars characters.
The main race takes place mid-afternoon and the teams race along the riverside, through the town (no mean feat if you know Knaresborough – it’s very hilly), back down and through the river to the finish line. I say through the river - all the beds have to be buoyant as the teams have to wade through the river with the beds. We had a drink at the entrance to Mother Shipton’s Cave and watched all the teams cross the bridge and head down to the river.
We rounded the day off back home with a barbeque.

Outfit: Navy and White Stripes and Spots with Distressed Cropped Denim
Casual Friday rolls around once more and the weather is still warm and sunny! That’s seven days on the trot which has been practically unheard of in the Frozen North in recent years. We’re having a barbeque for tea today to celebrate.
Last night I went straight to Aldi from work to do the shopping. Then I dashed home, made tea and headed off to choir practice at church. We had a good sing then I popped to Tesco for a couple of bits on the way home.
I think I have now worn all my summer shoes that can’t really be worn in the rain (though I still have a couple of pairs of closed toe summer shoes that need an outing) so I’m good for this year. It’d be nice to get more than one wear out of them all though.

Outfit: Red and White Spots and Wedges
The sun returned today, although it was cloudy and a little chilly to start with so I threw on Tuesday’s cute denim jacket and my turquoise spotted scarf to keep warm. I decided it was high time the red wedges put in an appearance so I paired them with a red and white outfit as this skirt is always good for warm summer days. I think these wedges are the highest shoes I own, but they’re super comfy and such a great colour.
Last night I stopped off at Boots on my way home and picked up a few bits and pieces, including some nail stickers which I am excited to try. I got a gel set and an ordinary set. Has anyone used these before? Any tips for applying them? Then I went to the post office to post my remaining two eBay items (and I’m currently considering what else I can sell as I like the look of my Paypal account with money in it!). I made a healthy (and delicious) chicken curry for tea (0% fat Greek yoghurt and tomato puree with stock gave a nice consistency but low fat sauce), then sat in the sun with a cup of tea for a while. I got busy in the kitchen after that and made some carrot and pepper soup and some date flapjack.
Later on we had a cup of tea and some date flapjack with an episode of Only Fools and Horses. We’ve just started season 7, the last full season they made. Unfortunately, there were two Christmas specials, two years apart, between seasons 6 and 7 which aren’t on Love Film so the jump in the timeline confused us somewhat and led to some Wikipedia-ing of what we’d missed!

Outfit: Pattern Mixing: Leopard and Spots with Red Pants and Black Blazer
It was less warm out today but the sun did put in an appearance eventually. Despite opting for pants instead of a summer skirt I took the opportunity to wear a pair of peep toe shoes whilst the weather was dry.
Yesterday was the young man’s birthday so we went out for tea at our local pub. We took a walk up to his parents’ house afterwards and it was lovely to be out in the evening sunshine.

Outfit: Neutrals: Stripes, Colour Blocking and Denim
It was warm and sunny again today (June for the win!), so I braved bare legs for the first time this year. Mostly because I wanted to wear my favourite wedges whilst it was warm enough to do so. A longer length skirt kept things work-appropriate whilst the denim jacket warded off the chill from the air conditioning. I didn’t really need it outside in the sunshine!
Last night I ran a bunch of errands after work – posting my eBay sales, picking up some sausages for tea and then I went to the gym. I did some time on the treadmill and cross trainer and then went to an abs class. I’ve not been to that class since before Christmas and I forgot how much it hurts!
When I got home the young man had lit the barbeque and we cooked outside and enjoyed the evening sunshine.

Outfit: Nautical Stripes with Turquoise Accents
It’s June 3rd and the good weather continues apace. This skirt turned out to be a good buy as I’ve worn it several times since I got it. And I only paid something like £2.99 for it.
Last night we went across the city to meet my sister and brother-in-law at our favourite Chinese buffet restaurant. They had babysitters for the evening so were making the most of being able to get out. We had a lovely meal and then popped to the new Wetherspoon’s for a drink.
It was back to work today but the sunshine made the early start that bit easier, and the new office has windows all around so at least I could see the sun even if I couldn’t be out in it.

The Rest of the Week Off
It’s been a busy old week – being on holiday from work is kind of exhausting!
Wednesday I went across the city to pick up my new contact lenses, and in the afternoon it rained again so we sat in the conservatory and I listed a bunch of stuff on eBay. That evening my parents came over and we went to our local pub for tea. It was nice to see them and we invited them on the spur of the moment so were glad they were able to come.

Thursday the young man and I headed west for the day as the forecast was for better weather than at home. We went to the Lake District and the west coast of Cumbria, stopping in Barrow on Furness, Whitehaven, Maryport and Keswick. We liked Keswick a lot and have plans to return there as it was after 5pm by the time we were there and everything was closed.

Friday I drove over to see my sister and niece and we went Harlow Carr Gardens in Harrogate. We took my niece for her first experience of Bettys Tea Rooms and she thoroughly enjoyed herself. She polished off about a quarter of my sister’s scone and tried to eat the wax crayons they gave her to colour with. We went back to my sister’s house for a while and played in the garden with a giant bubble wand.

Saturday the young man and I went over to my sister’s with our bikes and we went cycling with her and my brother in law. We managed 19 miles in all, mostly along the canal, stopping en route for a pub lunch. We rounded the day off with well deserved takeaway in the evening.
Sunday was lovely and sunny again and we spent the day at home, doing chores, pottering in the garden and I washed my car.
