Outfit: July 21st – Gingham and Distressed Denim
Gingham has been a massive trend this spring summer and I’ve had this shirt sitting in my closet the whole time and I haven’t worn it! What’s that about? I have a few button down shirts and I don’t wear them often. This one was a lucky charity shop find several years ago. I always check the men’s section for shirts and sweaters in charity shops because the length in the sleeves and body is better and a men’s small or extra small fits me OK. I think this one is a slim fit so it’s even better.

Outfit: July 20th – Orange and Stripes and Leopard
It’s not like me to wear the same pair of shoes two days in a row (I have a lot of shoes, got to spread the love around!) but I liked the idea of mixing a neutral pattern (the stripes) with a neutral pattern (the leopard print) and as the black kind of toned in too I went with it.
This white top is the short sleeve version of the dark green ¾ sleeve top I wore in the July 14th post. I may also have purchased the orange ¾ sleeve version as it was on sale with an additional 20% off, as was this white one.
So, I used a thinner barrelled curling wand on my hair and got better results with my waves I think. I finger combed the curls through before spraying them and they look quite curly here, but they drop throughout the day and should still be there tomorrow for a minimum effort hair day.

Outfit: July 19th – Grey Knot Front Dress
I like details on my tops and dresses – straps, knots, buttons, zips, I’ll take them all. The knot on this dress helps to draw in your waist I think and it’s super comfy to wear as it’s just a grey jersey fabric.
I got some better pictures of my hair – I brushed out the previous day’s waves and put texturizing spray in it for some oomph. It kind of worked! I feel like I’ll be able to do so much more with it now it’s shorter.

Outfit: July 18th – New Hair!
These aren’t the best pictures but I had to snap some quick shots on the first morning with my new hair! My friend L does my hair so we get to have a bit of a gossip over a cup of tea at the same time. You know I coloured my hair darker the previous weekend and L agreed that the condition of it had been improved no end thanks to the conditioning effect of the colourant. Garnier Nutrisse is the way forward to great condition hair people! So I asked L to cut me an A Line Bob and showed her my Pintrest board (here) (yes, I have been dragged into the cult of Pintrest – it’s awesome!). I told her I wanted to keep the length I had in the front at then go up from there. She left it a little on the longer side at the back as I said I usually wear my hair wavy these days. Overall I’m pleased with the cut – it doesn’t look much different from the front but I don’t have all that hair on the back of my neck which is great for the warm weather. Now I just have to work out how best to style it (I already burned myself on my waving wand and had to dig out the heatproof glove that you’re supposed to wear while using it)!

Outfit: July 17th – Maxi Skirt
I have had this skirt YEARS. Literally, years. I don’t think I had it in high school but I’m pretty sure I had it at university. So that makes it going on for 20 years old. Practically vintage. I looked at the label to see whether it gave me any clues as to the age. There’s a website address on it so that makes it late 90s at the very oldest. But the web address is www.tops.co.uk – which now redirects to topshop.com – but why would they even choose that rather than the full Topshop name?! It certainly dates from when the Tall range was in its very infancy.
I keep this skirt because every now and then I have an event where the dress code is an ankle length black skirt and yeah. You try finding a skirt (any skirt, let alone a black one) that is ankle length on me. So I knew this day was going to be a warm one and it suddenly occurred to me that a long skirt with a split up the side would be just as airy as a short one, but would pair better with a racer back tank for the office. I might even wear it again.

Outfit: July 14th – Friday Again
Friday rolled around once again and as I pulled on these jeans I couldn’t believe just how much wear I am getting out of a £6 pair of jeans. That’s right: these were just £6! They were marked as £22 but when I took them to the till they rang up for £6 and I wasn’t going to argue with that. I am loving the slightly cropped length for the summer and they have just the right amount of distressing on. The holes are actually really well placed for me too (I suspect they’re supposed to be right on the knees on someone not quite as tall as me), just above the knee means they don’t rip further when I bend down.

Outfit: July 13th – Green Dress, Tan Jacket, Leopard Print Shoes
I didn’t really need the jacket today as it was pretty warm out, even at 8am. But I figured I couldn’t really post another outfit with just this dress, despite what I said about that the other week, so I added the jacket for some interest.
My hair was pretty much au natuelle this day – I washed it the night before, part dried it with my diffuser, slept on it damp then in the morning added sea salt spray and scrunched again, fixing it with gel spray. It’s a bit messy but isn’t that how beachy waves are supposed to look?

Outfit: July 12th – A New Look
I think I have mastered beachy waves in my hair at last! So, for the benefit of no one but myself, here’s what I did: second day hair (I used my waving wand on it the previous day) sprayed liberally with sea salt spray (got2Be is my brand of choice because it’s cheap), scrunched and then once the spray has dried a little, spray on my usual gel spray to hold the style. My curls look a little ‘done’ here, especially at the front, but by the time I’d walked to work I had the perfect beachy waves going on. Yay!
So the title of this post is misleading. Sorry. No new look as such, just that my entire outfit (bar the shoes) is (unintentionally) all from New Look. The pieces range greatly in age: the t shirt is this spring, the cardi I have had many, many years and the skirt I have also had many years but it came from a charity shop so who knows how old it is?! Pretty old I would wager, given the logo that’s on the label hasn’t been used in a long time.

Outfit: July 10th – Rain After The Sunshine
After a lovely, sunny weekend Monday morning dawned wet and rainy. I didn’t mind too much though as I was planning to cover up anyway. A weekend spent in the sun left me looking a bit pink on my shoulders and thighs so long sleeves were definitely the way forward for a day or two. I often feel that my long sleeve t shirts get a bit neglected anyway. It’s not often that it’s the right temperature to just wear them as they are – I always need a layer under or over them in winter, and then the weather warms up and I go straight for short sleeves. So I decided to give my burgundy top some love this day.
I spent Saturday with my sister and my five year old niece, Little Miss M. We went to Build A Bear in the morning, a very belated fifth birthday present for her, then in the afternoon we had a water fight in my back garden as it was hot and sunny. The young man joined in too and little Miss M thought it was the best thing ever.
Sunday afternoon I sat and read for most of the time. It’s not often that I’ll spend so much time reading, but I just started a new Dorothy Koomson book (she is totally my favourite author, if you’ve never read any of her books then go and check them out!) on my Kindle app and once I get going with anything of hers it’s really hard to put it down. I even switched to reading on my phone for a while when the battery ran out on my iPad!
Finally, I did my hair over the weekend. I’m still getting it properly cut and styled in a week’s time, so it will probably have changed again by the time this post goes live, but the scraggy ends finally got the better of me and I put a darker colour on it to improve the condition, as well as chopping my longest sections about two inches to get rid of the worst bits. So it’s temporary new hair, but I feel like it looks so much better already.
