It was much, much milder out the day I wore this than it had been of late so light layers were a good option, especially as I was wearing my super-thick waterproof coat due to the rain that was forecast. The shirt is a cosy flannel, but paired with a cotton cardi it was just right.

Note to self: try pairing this shirt with the slouchy back cashmere sweater when the temperature dips again.

Another quick mirror/Instagram style snap for you today, my excuse this time being that I had to take my car to the garage first thing for it to be repaired after some kind person drove into me in the post-Christmas snow and dented all the back door in. (And also there were temporary traffic lights right by where I was going so I knew it would take me longer than usual to get there.) I take my pictures right before I leave the house in the morning and so some days it’s either pictures like this or the outfit goes undocumented. And, if it isn’t blogged or Instagrammed, did it even happen? That’s one of life’s great mysteries, huh?*

So these are the shoes I was going to wear the Friday before, but got thwarted by the weather (or lack of it, as there was no snow). Truth be told it wasn’t really warm enough for these shoes in late January, but as I drove to work (I exchanged my car for a courtesy one at the garage) it didn’t really matter.

So once again we were promised snow that didn’t materialise. Friday was supposed to be heavy snow from the early hours and right through the day. Instead? Sunshine. I had thought I would wear my walking boots outside and carry my leopard print trainers to wear in the office, but when there was a distinct lack of the white stuff in the morning I decided walking boots were overkill so I put on these red boots instead. They just about coped with the ice underfoot and I managed to stay upright all the way to work.

Once again I have a thermal top hidden under my sweater (see above: ice) but I braved the cold in just jeans this day.

It was another cold one (well it is January so that’s to be expected I suppose) and all I want to do when it’s cold is bundle up in a cosy sweater, so that’s what I did. This one is wool rather than cashmere, but it’s warm. The pants are made from a proper fabric but they are have an elasticated waist and they are so stretchy that they feel like leggings when you’re wearing them.

So yeah, the snow arrived mid-afternoon the previous day and so it was another outfit of thick cosy Primark velvet-lined leggings (honestly, they’re so much warmer than jeans or regular tights so if you don’t already own them, go get some!), a short skirt and a cashmere sweater. With a thermal top layered underneath because I am nesh. Obviously I didn’t walk out in the snow in these boots, I put on my wellies for that (my EMU boots having given up the ghost and started leaking on the way home the previous day). I find wellies particularly cold to wear, even with thick socks, so on a whim I stuck a sheepskin insole inside them this morning. I think it helped a bit.

We were promised snow overnight the morning I wore this, but as seems typical this winter the weather missed us completely and not a flake was in sight when I woke up. I had planned my outfit for snow and more some was forecast for later in the day so I wore what I had planned anyway. There is method in the seeming madness of this ensemble for snow: the tights are actually my beloved velvet-lined leggings, by far the warmest leg-wear I own. The skirt is pleather and therefore waterproof as I knew it would be sticking out the bottom of my warm, waterproof coat which isn’t that long. And I put on my cosy EMU boots to walk to work, carrying these ankle ones with me in my bag.

It was marginally warmer this day than it had been of late, so I wore my biker jacket rather than a proper coat. I felt like it went with the dress pretty well. I also wore my high heeled boots as I had a lunchtime appointment and was therefore driving up the hill rather than walking. I love these boots but as I don’t wear heels this high anymore I struggle with the height of them.

I don’t ever wear my hair up, but it’s just about long enough again at the back now to pin up like this. I am such a fan of big earrings right now that sometimes it’s nice to show them off. Especially this black pair which gets lost amongst my dark hair.

Another chilly day (well, it is January so it’s to be expected really) so another oversize sweater and over the knee boots were just the thing to keep me toasty.

This sweater is the twin of the black one that I wear fairly often. I don’t reach for the cream one as much and I don’t really know why. It’s just as warm and cosy and it lightens up a winter outfit. I used to have the brown version of this sweater too (when you find a sweater this warm with super long sleeves, you buy it in all the colours – even if just from eBay) but that one had been shrunk (in the wash? The label says dry clean only, the sweater was definitely shrunken, you do the math…) by its previous owner so it was back on eBay for a re-sale some years ago now.

I kept my legs toasty despite the short skirt with my velvet lined leggings and that meant I could wear ankle boots rather than full length as I didn’t need any extra warmth. The boots gave a little bit of colour to the otherwise neutral look so that was a bonus.
