Outfit: March 6th – Channelling Audrey
I keep a file of picture for outfit inspiration on my iPad. It’s like my own personal Pintrest board. One of the pictures I saved recently was this one from Putting Me Together. I am a massive fan of Audrey’s style and many of her outfits are based around basics and classics and are therefore easy to recreate with what you already have. Although her pictures are making me want some blanket scarves in lighter fabric for the spring.
The sun was shining this Monday morning, and it was (just about) warm enough to pull out a faux leather jacket, and to layer on a pashmina rather than an extra sweater. I love a good jacket but I struggle to incorporate them into my outfit sometimes as I’m not likely to be wearing them all day. They’re generally just a coat layer for going outside at this time of year. Or I add a blazer but then need another layer to go outside. Does anyone else have this problem?

Outfit: March 3rd – Snakeskin Heels and Distressed Denim
Another week, another casual Friday rolls around. I wore my self-distressed jeans again because I just can’t quit them. They were once a favourite pair of jeans in my wardrobe but then they got to be a little big and I stashed them away as I couldn’t bear to part with them (see: favourite pair of jeans). They’re still a little big, truth be told (if I wear them without a belt they slide right down) but I feel like the slightly looser fit lends itself perfectly to making holes in the thighs and being able to sit down without any flesh bulging out. And let’s face it: no one wants to see that. I am so happy that these have been given a new lease of lift. Not bad for a pair of jeans that cost £19.99 in 2011, huh?
So I hopped on the choker bandwagon with this little faux-leather number from Primark. I looked in the mirror the morning I wore this and was transported right back to the 6th form, circa 1996. It was awesome. This one was part of a pack of three so I might try out the other ones in the coming days.
And then, at dinnertime, I was transported to my 6th form days again when someone was heating something in the microwave that smelt suspiciously like bacon flavour Super Noodles. I was assured that wasn’t what was cooking, but suddenly it was 1996 once again in the boarding girls’ common room.

Outfit: March 2nd – More Army Green
It looks like this week is turning into green week! I didn’t have time to take proper pictures this particular morning, but I wanted to share the outfit anyway because I liked it. I also
These trousers are one of my most-worn items I think. The jacket is a jersey one and was a 99p eBay bargain. You can’t go wrong with that – the price or a jacket that’s really a sweatshirt in disguise.
You know what else you can’t go wrong with? Primark’s ballet flats. £3.50 I paid for those little silver ones up there. And yes, they will wear out before the summer is out I’m sure (walking to work has that effect on your cheaper shoes I’ve found) but at that price I can replace them.

Outfit: March 1st – In Like a Lion…
So March dawned cold and frosty, but with sunshine which gave me the hope at least that spring might be on its way. Just ignore the ankle boots and fleece lined tights…
This top is actually one of those batwing off the shoulder styles, with a thick, fitted waistband – you know the ones, they look great with jeans. However, when I tried it on I discovered that it could be pulled forward and disguised as a kind of cowl neck top that would work with a skirt too. I love a versatile piece of clothing!
I’m just getting really impatient to wear some spring outfits now. With luck, by the time this post goes live I will be able to do so. (I generally write my posts on the same day as the photos are taken but then they go up around a week later, depending on how behind my scheduling is. This means I can just do a bulk-post upload once a week and not have to mess about with logging on to Blogger every day.)

Outfit: February 27th – Last of the Winter Weather?
Just when I thought that spring was right around the corner, February bit back with a vengeance and we got more cold, wet weather. The snow that was forecast didn’t materialise, fortunately, but the wind was bitingly cold. I layered my thermal top underneath this thin polo neck to make sure I kept warm. It pained me to get out the fleece lined tights again, but needs must, along with the tall boots.

Outfit: February 24th – DIY Distressed Jeans and Friday Ramblings
I was excited to get up the morning of this outfit. I’m not really sure why: perhaps because it was Friday, perhaps because the forecast was for a sunny day after the wind and rain of the previous day, perhaps because we were going over to the house of some friends for tea, perhaps because I was going to wear my newly distressed jeans. Whatever the reason, it’s nice to want to get out of bed in the morning and start the day.
Speaking of the jeans, I put the distressing in these myself. I go to a craft and chat group in my village on Tuesdays where the usual mix is knitting, crocheting, cross-stitching. This week I sat and cut slits in my jeans, then laboriously pulled all the blue threads out with tweezers to leave the white threads exposed. Then I threw them in the wash at home to fluff up the raw edges. Part of me wants to make the holes bigger, but part of me likes the ‘clean’ look they have at the moment. What do you think?
Some mornings over breakfast I watch You Tube videos. This particular Friday morning I felt like You Tube was telling me to cut my hair as many of the videos in the ‘suggestions’ section were how to style long bobs, how to style shorter hair. It’s an idea I constantly toy with, but am unlikely to follow through. It did inspire me to pull out my waving wand and curl my hair though.
I feel like these brogues are really coming into their own this year. I bought them on a whim last summer, thinking I would wear them more often than I did but now that the weather is flirting with the idea of spring brogues are a good way to get shoe-coverage without wearing a boot. By which I mean they are a fuller shoe (and therefore warmer) than a ballet flat, but they’re still a shoe.

Outfit: February 21st – Burgundy and Black
That post title sounds like a drink! (For all I know it IS a drink – I don’t really drink alcohol, just the odd cocktail now and then, so I have no idea.) I was struggling with this dress the morning I wore this. I think I like the concept of the swing dress but in reality it needs something over it. I added this little blazer and job done. If I were going somewhere that I would be keeping my outerwear on all day (shopping, for example) I would wear it with my black faux leather jacket, as so:
